Daimler Unveils High-Mileage Diesel Car
Washington Post ^ | 6/7/05 | Justin Blum

Posted on 06/08/2005 10:55:57 AM PDT by B Knotts

DaimlerChrysler says it will become the first manufacturer to unveil a diesel concept car that will meet more stringent pollution rules and get higher mileage than diesels now on the road.

...

Some environmentalists reacted with skepticism to the Daimler car, noting that manufacturers often introduce flashy concept cars that never make it to the production line. They also said the country would be better served by companies making more gasoline hybrid vehicles because they pollute less than cleaner-burning diesels.

"The auto industry is trying to convince the car-buying public . . . to reject better technology like hybrid cars," said Dan Becker, Washington director of the Sierra Club's Global Warming Program.

The Sierra Club bozo doesn't care about "global warming" or he would be more interested in reducing CO2, which diesels do (especially at 70 mpg).

This guy would rather have a bunch of batteries in landfills than efficient engines.

This is all a scam. We know the auto companies have 300 mpg engines available but the evil oil company CEOs are paying them billions to not make them available.

If you needed a sarcasm tag I can't help you.

Does the Sierra Club have ANY engineers sitting on their councils? I think they believe in magic.

No, they're giving them a choice.

Believe what you may, but the Great Criswell had predicted that someday cars will run on vegetables.

Other pollutants are reduced by treating exhaust with a liquid called urea that drivers will need to refill.

Just give us a good target.

Not only that, they have 400mpg diesel cars that run on hemp fuel which can be produced at 5 cents a gallon.

Morons. Sierra Club is pissed because it is not their idea. Run a diesel engine on 100% biodiesel. I do, and it runs very smoothly.

These tree huggers are hopelessy lost in the '60's. They'd rather lambast the industry than support a current technology that works.

So, not sure what their real agenda is. It apparently is not environmental.

They still beat the heck out of most SUVs, though. And the CRD version is better still.
