Kerry's Vietnam (Boston Globe painted into a Corner)
Boston Glob ^ | 6/10/05 | GLOBE EDITORIAL

Posted on 06/10/2005 6:34:31 PM PDT by bitt

DESPITE THE continuing gripes of his critics, records released this week show that Senator John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. The documents should put to rest claims that Kerry misrepresented his military record in the presidential race. But Kerry's failure to respond to the smear campaign launched against him last summer lent credibility to its real objective: to impugn his equally honorable opposition to the war.

John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer and Kerry's adversary on the war since 1971, acknowledged as much in a telephone interview Wednesday. ''We produced seven commercials," he said of his anti-Kerry group, now called Swift Vets and POWs for Truth. ''Only one dealt with Vietnam activities." O'Neill was incensed by Kerry's memorable testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971, in which the young veteran, clad in a combat shirt, criticized the war.

Kerry has said that he may have used a poor choice of words when he cited other veterans' reports of atrocities as being ''in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan." But his basic analysis was sound: Vietnamese and Americans were dying needlessly because the war was a mistake, and US policymakers allowed it to continue even though they were aware that their strategy for victory was failing.

your clearly not reading what im typing just reacting to the way you want my comments to read. i think john kerry is a terrible senator, american, and person. what im saying is that there are many more important things going on than what some persidential wannabe did 40 years ago. remember we have troops in battle right now. lets focus on getting senators elected who will truly support them. your not focusing on the core issue. it has nothing to do with the constitution, it has to do with priorities

I suggest you actually look at a form 180. There are only two choices: Deleted and undeleted. If the Globe claims he signed an undeleted request, then maybe it is true. They put "quote" around the word, so they were looking at the form at the time, presumeably.

(And I bet I know more about all of this than you, no matter my sign up date.)

That stinking, disrespecting the uniform, long haired, treacherous, lying, pompous, loudmouth, whelp of a porch dog, insubordinate, disgrace of a Lieutenant; more fit to carry the hod than shoulder boards. And those are the nice things I have to say about him.

Why do you want to "forget" about Hanoi Kerry?

Why do you condone a traitor in the US Senate?

I agree that we have lots of more important tasks before us than to revisit events of 35 years ago, EXCEPT that letting history be re-written or brushed off as unimportant now is wrong as the beneficiary is a former and likely future traitorous presidential candidate. The truth is a casualty if those who know the truth do not continually remind others of it.

nothing will come of it; it is a waste of time and energy; like i said before (its like a broken record) there are MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT

Kerry did not release all of his records, from what I understood he released only part of them.

Wouldn't the National archives be the way to the truth? It seems I read an article about this recently.

it is important. remember that dan rather attempted to oust president bush with phony records of 40 years ago.

the most meaningful event in my life was the vietnam war. and the left destroyed my country and my life with their evil.
