Did anyone hear the end of Paul Harvey's radio show today? He quoted Winston Churchill who said, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor that Amercans "did not get where they were by being made of sugar candy". He tied that in with what happened on 9/11, and said "I've been choking on this one for weeks, and I'd like to get it out".
He also said that we have kept our "best weapons in their silos".
I believe Mr. Harvey might be in favor of a couple "swift blows" to prove who we are....because we're not made of sugar candy.
Do we have at least two independent sources to confirm what Harvey claims? He's not the most reliable.
Fine words.
More bombs, less bullets.
I'm with Harvey ! Why let more American boys come home in a casket when we've got the weapons to end this war NOW ! F it !
I was actually surpised at what I heard Paul Harvey say today. It sounded like he advocated nuking Saudi Arabia!
I think Mr. Harvey is suggesting that America "nuts up" and opens up a can of whoop-ass on Islamic terrorism.
Paul Harvey is the BEST!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Mr. Harvey for what you mean to America. You are truly one of the last " True Conservatives"!!!!
Mr. Harvey is correct. I've listened to him since 1973. Today he was right on.
Do it now, or do it later. I don't think we can be on the same planet without one of us changing our minds, and mine ain't gonna change!
Just one of our missile subs could unload and take care of the whole problem. That would definitely qualify as an open can of whoop-ass.
I understand that what we say here may not influence like someone of Mr. Harveys status but he is right.
A nuke or ten on various mid east sites would sure make me a lot happier.
And it would sure stop our boys from dying for these turds.
And I think my late grandfather listened to him back in '33.
I heard it today too. It was Paul Harvey at his best. I was a little surprised to hear him speak so bluntly, but he was spot on.
I dont think you take on a bunch of mideastern religious fanatics who are fighting an asymetrical war by dropping atomic bombs on them....we are winning with what we are doing
agreed
I have caught him more than once reading stories outta the Weekly World News- aka Bat Boy et al.(the B&W rag that saves money on color ink, so they can put it into the journalism)
This may sound really bad. I swear to God that I thought Paul Harvey passed away years ago.
I will grant you this ...if The American people are exemplified by Ted Kennedy then we are now made of marshmallows and bourbon
...the rest of the story.
Why can't we give an ultimatum: "You do one more beheading, blow up one more of our soldiers, or attack anything in US or world, we will evaporate your Mecca and Medina and continue with other sources of "jihad"!" Enough!!!
Now is your move!!!
your point?
Or are you criticizing your grandfather?
The man that helped make you who and what you are for whatever reason.
...it was SWEET. :D
That has been my thoughts since the first tower fell.
I didn't know Paul Harvey was still broadcasting
Wrong Churchill. He is talking about Winstin, not Ward.
I was listening at work and thought WTF? Is Paul really telling it like it is? How can this be allowed through the media filters...hehe
I think what he was saying was that we can decide to win 100%, or we can try to be popular with the international community, and second guess our every action.
He sounded disgusted with the hand wringers, whiners, and cry babies who seem to forget just who started this mess...
All the dems talk about is Gitmo, Abu Gharib, Halliburton, Evil Rove, Stupid Bush, oh woe is me...
They seem to look for reasons to spit on America, and then wonder why they keep losing elections....I don't recall a democrat "plan" for anything since 1992.
Although Clinton's plans were bad, we should at least give the bastard credit for pretending to have a "solution", as opposed to the current dems who only run ....
....against America, for nothing....
Well, I guess that makes me a staunch Paul Harvey ally...
Nuke Mecca and Islam is over, finished. No more bowing and praying to a rock everyday for hundreds of millions. They can have their pilgrimage and martyrdom all in one trip.
Good-day...
FINE...precision guided 3/4 kilotons neutron warheads...ask them, "Do you REALLY want to fight a war? THINK ABOUT IT, AHAB!"..the aggressor always sets the rules, the Arabs/Jihadists, must understand this...NO more Somalias. :P
I say lets do it!! it'll save american lives, save our economy, and get a HUGE message across to the rest of the evil world out there.
I was thinking the same thing. He isn't on any station local to me which I am aware of, so I haven't heard him in atleast 10 years. Wondering if I was confusing his passing with that of Mike Royko in 1997???
YES, I heard him.......he was GREAT!
How could you possibly interpret that comment as a criticism of my Grandfather?
Paul Harvey is old. As much as I have enjoyed him over the years, it is time for him to retire.
with age comes wisdom...listen to him
I was rooting for a little nuke "shock and awe" action in Iraq in 2003, not to mention doing the "B-52 Overture" on Fallujah.
Between Iraq, Iran, Syria, North Korea, etc., we're gonna end up nuking *somebody* soon.
(Does this count as "advocating violence" ? )
Back in '85 or so, Paul Harvey did one of his "rest of the story" segments regarding how 'Danny Boy' came to be written. The story was so moving and his rendition so perfect, that I literally was getting teary eyed as he told the story:
'and before the first snows fell in the mountains, the second son answered the call of the pipes. And before the first flowers of spring had reached their bloom, another star was hung in the window...'
I related that story at a dinner party and two other guys there said they heard the story and they to found themselves getting teary eyed.
I have listened to Paul Harvey and found him to be wonderfully insightful in many ways. But I stand by what I have said, it is time that he retire.
Well, 'tis true his mind ain't as sharp as it once was, but he's still the best at what he does.
I listened to him in 1953. Had no idea the man was still alive today. Whom should we bomb, did he say?
IMHO we will never *win* a final victory as long as Mideastern religious fanatics exist. All we can hope to do is diminish the symptoms with the present approach. In order to effect a total cure we need to destroy the cause, Islam!
Nukes have a 100% deterrent value and only a 20% tactical value in our arsenal. To use nukes would not accomplish objectives. This is a war without nationalities or national boundaries. You can't eliminate cockroaches with a shotgun, although you can kill a bunch of them and make yourself feel good. You need to use roach spray. Nuke talk is irresponsible and is what gives us a real problem as conservatives, appearing unbalanced and "over the top". As Pres. Bush said, this will be a long war. It will be "hard work". no quick"nuke" fixes here. Our military is doing us proud...and most Americans feel that way right now. We have had complete military success with minimal casualties. We are operating in this theater like a precision surgeon, and will achieve our objectives. Lets not become the butcher, and destroy our patient.
oh but you meant that paul was to old to be correct about what he was saying.
that he may have been relevent during grandpas time but not anymore, too old?
pauls show of 15 minutes a day was the forerunner to all conservative talk shows like rush. Ask rush if paul is relevant.
your grandpa would not be proud.
Its' been said, that the widespread use of PGMs has NOT "Shocked & Awed" (Psychological wounded) the non Iraqi/Arab fighter..it has defeated the Iraqi populace, they were there during GWI/GWII..the fighters were "imported" after the conflict.
the saudis are not our friends.
that in years past our leaders weren't afraid to take unpopular steps to take down an enemy to save american mens lives. that our best weapons are left in their silos and that a very few used on certain targets would show the world we are not to be trifeled with.
good sound statements in my book
he also said that a paper tiger dies from within when the tiger refuses to use its power.
Do you always purposefully add words and meanings to what people say? This is the second time you have assumed facts which were not there. I never said Paul was incorrect and I never said he was "not relevant". What I did say was it is time for him to retire. The man is approaching 90, his voice is fading and it pains me to listen to him.
I heard him. He seemed to urge use of nukes in Iraq and thought it was ok to use disease-ridden blankets to try rid us of Indians.
I think he's wrong on both counts.
There is a very large psychological component to war. Merely outmaneuvering an enemy's military and defeating him on the battlefield is not enough. One must pound home to the general population that if they resist their lives are forfeit. Witness the difference between Germany after WWI where they could claim they were "stabbed in the back" and WWII where their cities were bombed flat. Took all the fight out of them.
I'm not one to advocate gratuitous violence (okay, maybe *some*) but if the "Arab Street" isn't cowed, then the war sin't over. A little napalm and carpet bombing will go a long way to preventing more trouble.
But, we're not going to learn that until it's too late and we really have to resort to nuclear weapons.
