Rove's remarks

Liberals woke up yesterday morning wondering what happened to their Democratic Party. Literally overnight, the Democrats had become the President's staunchest supporters in the war on terror. As much as we welcome the party's change of heart, we were surprised to see that it was precipitated by the architect himself, Karl Rove.     

The White House Deputy Chief of Staff, speaking at a dinner Wednesday night of the New York State Conservative Party, had a few words on "state of liberalism." In particular, Mr. Rove compared the conservative reaction to September 11 to the liberal reaction. "Conservatives saw the attacks and prepared for war," he said. "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Pretty much sums up the last four years for us. Michael Moore, George Soros and MoveOn.org would certainly agree.    

  Democrats, however, are outraged. Taking the comments personally, six Democrats fired off a letter to President Bush asking for Mr. Rove's apology. Sen. John Kerry -- who last year promised to wage a "more sensitive" war on terror -- sent an e-mail to supporters asking them to sign a petition admonishing Mr. Rove for his "purposeful attack on the patriotism of those who dare ask the tough questions." Apparently, Democrats are just as determined to wage a war against terror as Republicans. Who knew? They might have a point if Mr. Rove had directed his remarks specifically at Democrats.

Five of the six signatories of the letter did vote for war against Afghanistan; four against Iraq. Wiser Democrats clearly understand that the American people don't trust their party when it comes to national defense. There's no mystery why future presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, who voted...

Image building aside, the reality is that the Democrats have embraced the "Michael Moore wing" of their party. Earlier this year, MoveOn.org invited the Senate's top Democrats -- Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, Mrs. Clinton, Barbara Boxer, Dick Durbin and Charles Schumer -- to a rally. Last summer, the Democratic National Committee sat Mr. Moore right beside former President Jimmy Carter during the party's convention in Boston. And, lest we forget, it elected Howard Dean to be the party's chairman.

This is the side of the Democratic Party Americans see. Democrats should reread Mr. Rove's comments and realize that he was in fact diagnosing their problem. Instead, they have decided to act like hypocrites. Well played, Mr. Rove.

Just wait until everyone gets the NEW mandated "American Community Survey" from the US Census Dept. We have already had to comply with it..I have written my Senators concerning the very intrusive questions on this one..The IRS does not ask for nearly as much..They are only sending out 200,000 a month so it will be hard to get a real negative response at any one time for such a small segment of the population. They claim the information will be private and will be used only to decide which states get funds but any thinking, informed, concerned about freedom, American, will see red flags all over the place on this one..If you are interested in the questions asked go the the US Census site and take a look at it. I would be interested to know whether others felt as we did..

A New Approach for Timely Information

The American Community Survey (ACS) is a new nationwide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. It is intended to eliminate the need for the long form in the 2010 Census. The ACS will collect information from U.S. households similar to what was collected on the Census 2000 long form, such as income, commute time to work, home value, veteran status, and other important data. As with the official U.S. census, information about individuals will remain confidential.

Three Million Households to be Surveyed

The ACS will collect and produce population and housing information every year instead of every ten years. About three million households will be surveyed each year. Collecting data every year will reduce the cost of the official decennial census, and will provide more up-to-date information throughout the decade about trends in the U.S. population at the local community level. A similar program is planned for Puerto Rico.

Expanding Local Coverage

The ACS began in 1996 and has expanded each subsequent year. Data currently are available for 800 local areas, including 241 counties, 206 congressional districts, most metropolitan areas of 250,000 population or more, all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Census Bureau plans to conduct the ACS in every county of the U.S., contacting the residents of three million housing units. Within three years, data should be available for all areas of 20,000 or more. For small areas less than 20,000, it will take five years to accumulate a large enough sample to provide estimates with accuracy similar to the decennial census.

One more important one...and actually, there's one that I forgot...how many of the DemCritters, on the day that Botoxer and the one from the House of Nonrepresentatives challgengd the Ohio electoral count, got up and thanked MICHAEL MOORE for the idea to waste the public's time by challenging a forgone conclusion?

And they wonder why they keep losing elections...I swear I ought to write that book...

As much as I hate to admit it, I have a cousin like that. We all still love her, but nothing will ever change her.

We had satellite (Direct) for 4-5 years for about $70/mo for both tv and internet. It was great compared to the alternative. Downside was a little rainstorm would knock out the service.
