Throwing in the towel
International Herald Tribune ^ | SATURDAY, JULY 2, 2005 | G. Vernet, Rochepaule, France

In response to recent columns by Thomas Friedman: Being French, I am an enemy of the United States of America. I am also an ugly protectionist; I have delusions of past grandeur; and I live in a failed state with an over-regulated economy and closed borders. We have a totally outdated social system that is not even a system after all, and certainly not social. I am unemployed, like everybody else here, but I live in comfort by retrieving benefits from the bankrupt welfare state. I am not looking for a job because I would be too afraid to find one. I am ashamed when I read Friedman's column with religious fervor in copies of the International Herald Tribune that are left behind by American tourists in Paris.

"When I see the benefits of an American invasion elsewhere, I also wish the United States could send a few divisions here (we shall surrender immediately if we are not on a long weekend) and occupy France until it is purged of its socialist mentality and its encroached racism and anti-Semitism."

LOL! My solution to his problem:

Been There. Done that. Twice in 100 years is enough. Don't call us again, we're busy.

Bitter sarcasm from a Frenchman, yet it is strangely amusing.

Meanwhile, Middle America forges ahead into a bright, ascendant future--confident, prosperous, and living The American Dream--leaving behind, in the quagmires of their own decadence and stupidity, the cesspools of Marxist Europe.

What a shame!

When Europe is a garage-sale, groaning under Islam, Middle America will drop in from time to time to pick up a bargain or two, and the children of today's Europeans will curse their parents.

And when Middle America completes its recovery of the U.S.A., today's Leftists and "activists" will be pushing mops and slinging fries, things they're qualified to do, as the rest of us soar to new and undreamed-of heights!

Fools doom themselves to their own destruction.

Everything sounds right to me although I don't think the guy is really a Frenchman.

A true Frenchman wouldn't surrender by committing suicide by eating cheese without wine. And I hear they have a lot of wine going to waste right now because American consumers ain't buying.

They have Social Security the same as we do here!

Outdated? I'll be danged, hearing this from a frog...

After all when it comes to socialism, the frogs are the epitome of it.

I see it as not so much a sarcasm but rather as a heartfelt confession on his part. Sort of the first step in going through Frenchmen Anonymous program. For how could he/they be cured of the French Disease unless they first confess to having it and agree on the curative regimen and symptoms?

The Demorats must cringe when they read stuff like this (if they don't get too confused) because their entire agenda is to import Euro-style secular socialism to the United States. The Democrats' dream is that the US can someday be as great as France, Germany, and England.
