SCANDAL IMPLOSION (Rove/Cooper/Wilson)
NY Post ^ | July 12, 2005 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 07/11/2005 11:18:25 PM PDT by Howlin

I WROTE a column on Oct. 10, 2003, about the strange case of Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame.

--

...I offered my speculation of what an administration official might have said to a journalist to explain just how Wilson — a Clinton administration official — got the assignment in the first place: "Administration official: 'We didn't send him there. Cheney's office asked CIA to get more information. CIA picked Wilson . . . Look, I hear his wife's in the CIA. He's got nothing to do. She wanted to throw him a bone.' "

Hate to say I told you so, but . . .

--

There's no mistaking the purpose of this conversation between Cooper and Rove. It wasn't intended to discredit, defame or injure Wilson's wife. It was intended to throw cold water on the import, seriousness and supposedly high level of Wilson's findings.

While some may differ on the fairness of discrediting Joseph Wilson, it sure isn't any kind of crime.

--

So if the offense wasn't against Plame, what of the offense against Wilson? There was no offense. As many of Joe Wilson's own hottest defenders would no doubt argue in relation to President Bush, exposing a liar is not only not a crime, it's a public service.

And Wilson lied. Repeatedly.

--

What isn't controversial is this: Karl Rove didn't "out" Valerie Plame as a CIA agent to intimidate Joe Wilson. He was dismissing Joe Wilson as a low-level has-been hack to whom nobody should pay attention. He was right then, and if he said it today, he'd still be right.

And if Valerie wants to live a quiet spy life, she should stop having her picture taken by society photographers and stop getting stories written about her on the front page of the Times.

But Rove's committed a classic case of treason - deliberately outing a secret operative for base political motives

Could you post a link?

You need to read up on the law which you are accusing Rove of violating. (Somewhat like Howard Dean saying that Tom DeLay should go back to Texas to serve his jail term, when Tom Delay hasn't been indicted of a crime.)

Source?
Oh, nevermind. Just go away.

It's just based on keywords and I honestly don't know how long they stay there, so I bookmark them, but it does help to find them.

You like making yourself look like a total idiot in public, do you?

Even IF Rove "outed" old Valerie, which he didn't do, he committed NO "treason". Plame was NOT a "covert" operative, neither had she been one for well over five years ( the time limit, dear, go read what exactly is a crime! ),and she committed a crime, by sending her attention grasping husband on a trip he wasn't qualified to do and that's nepotism. It's also abject stupidity, but they're Dems. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?

You know, if this thing wasn't being presented as the latest retro Bush-bash, folks would notice that the elephant in the room is federal government spouses not only working together, but sending each other on assignments. I thought this sort of incestuous behavior was frowned upon.

I think that I have bookmarked most of the threads about this, but I go see if I've missed any. I want this info, on hand, when it's proven that Rove didn't "out" Valerie. :-)

It is almost too much to hope for, isn't it?

Maybe it is.

Here's my story. Wilson wrote a book. He gave a pre-press sneak peek of the book to a few reporters.
A reporter on MSNBC or CNN did an on air book review, marveling at the yellow cake scam. According to the reporter, Wilson gives all the credit for the book to his wife, Valerie Plame.
The reporter goes on. As she's talking, she says Wilson claims his wife is an under agent for the CIA, but refuses to give her name.
About a week later, a "leak" has been discovered.
The first printing of the book is put on hold. Later, there's a new book with a new title that screams "victim."

But I could be wrong.
