BOMB SUSPECTS 'HAD BEEN ARRESTED'

The Government has denied claims the London bomb suspects were arrested last year.

Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Home Secretary Charles Clarke was keen to let the men go free so they could be monitored.

"It seems that part of this team had been subject to partial arrest ... in Spring 2004," Mr Sarkozy told a news conference.

That was denied by a British official.

"I am denying that on behalf of Charles Clarke. He did not say that they had been arrested," said an aide to Mr Clarke.

It has also been reported that the explosives used in Thursday's Tube blasts came from the Balkans.

Ah, catch and release strikes again? If this turns out to be true, there's going to be big trouble.

"He did not say that they had been arrested,"

He might not have said it, but had it actually happened? You know if someone sculpts a denial there is something behind it.

The article says that the gov't says they were not arrested. Why does the title of the article say that they were previously arrested?

Sounds like the UK has similar reporter problems as we do here.

Ah, the good old Aruban method of police detection. Let the suspects loose so that they can be observed. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.

we will never get the entire truth about this incident. any truths that might lead to a re-examination of what should be proper practices to fight the war on terror, if not for the left's influence of dumbing everyone down, will be covered up.

Arrest and release to monitor them?

Well, that really worked well.

How about deporting the bad guys sometime?

Why do free societies not have the right to keep out those who want to destroy the infrastructure?

Hey politicians, you guys have bodyguards. The rest of us don't. Why don't you stop your nonsense and do your jobs.

and the monitoring seems to have worked real well. hell, they were only able to walk into the subway past the security cameras wearing knapsacks - where was the "monitoring"?

Sounds like that would have been after the bombing. I truly wonder what a partial arrest consistes of/signifies in comparison to here.....

because they lack the political courage to take on the left and the media, who spend their days filling the mushy minds of the sheeple with the "profiling is bad", "the muslims are being tortured", mantra. the US is only slightly better then the UK in this regard. Only because the 9-11 attack was so big and so dramatic, is public opinion here somewhat different. Had 9-11 involved 52 dead in the NYC subways, it likely would have been treated like the UK is doing - as a criminal incident, not a war.

re :Ah, the good old Aruban method of police detection. Let the suspects loose so that they can be observed. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.

When it doesn't it hits the fan, when it works its drinks all around in the pub.

Seen this all before in other operations.

The problem is that your actual terrorist bomber is small fry equiv of a bagman.

What all security forces want is the mister big, the planner, the bomb maker the higher level who don't take part in actual operations.

So my monitoring the small fry you hope it will lead to the top echelon.

If it works pints all around.

If it doesn't !!!.

Oh, yes, I was including our politicians who are just as ineffectual in dealing with this issue. The British pols are no worse than ours, imo.

Partial Arrest?

The cops get real close, within ten or so yards, with hadcuffs at the ready -- then they say "nah" and walk away.

Arrest and release to monitor them?

This happens 100 times a day at our southern border. Only we don't even bother with the "monitoring" part.
