UK plans new anti-terror laws in wake of London bombings

LONDON -- Britain's government is preparing to introduce new laws to combat terrorism following the London bombings, as police plough through a growing series of international leads seeking those who planned the attacks.

On Sunday, 10 days after the blasts ripped through three London Underground subway trains and a bus, killing at least 55 people and injuring around 700, the government was preparing to hurry through the proposed laws.

Interior minister Charles Clarke was scheduled to meet his opposition counterparts on July 18 to discuss planned offences such as indirectly inciting terrorism, for example preachers who praise suicide bombers.

The government's legal affairs minister, Lord Chancellor Charles Falconer, denied that the measures were too late.

"We have got to learn the lessons and that is why we are bringing forward these new laws," he told BBC television. "I think all the political parties are agreed that the right course at the moment is to focus on what further steps need to be taken in relation to the law, but also getting to the root of that evil ideology that is driving this terrorism."

I saw this guy Clarke speaking over the weekend. The complete package of measures he has proposed, if approved, will make the Patriot Act absolutely pale in comparison to what the Brits get.

Let's pick up on the latest politcal pressure tactics that say that Britain's being targeted is a direct result of their cooperation with the US in the "war on terror."

Of course it is. the question is, will they cave in and force us to go it alone?

Here's your answer (complete with poll results):

Britons will never give in to terrorists

Speaking personally, we'll never give in to the terrorists, but I'm extremely angry at the American left for exploiting our pain. I am just as angry at some on this site who gave us 20 seconds of support and now giving us hours of tirades about how awful we are and how we brought this on ourselves; if those people ever ran things in America, that would be the sole means by which I would rethink our alliance...and that's nothing to do with the terrorists.

Regards, Ivan

It's too late for the UK to do anything about terrorism. They have allowed muzlims to so thoroughly infiltrate the island that nothing can be done to monitor even a small number of ring-leaders.

The only effective way to deal with terrorists is to round up every muzlim and kick them out of the country.

The UK's hopeless terrorist problem is the fruit of multiculturalism. Meanwhile, in America . . . .
