Iranian opposition tracking, killing senior military officers

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Iran's opposition is targeting senior officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iranian opposition sources said several senior officers of the IRGC have been tracked in major cities, including Teheran. The sources reported the killing of several officers of the IRGC and the Basij militia.

On July 14, an IRGC colonel was stabbed to death in Teheran, Iran's media said, according to Middle East Newsline. The sources said Col. Morteza Moinfar, commander of the Quds Force, was killed by several unidentified assailants.

The Quds Force has been regarded as the foreign intelligence service of the IRGC. The unit has been responsible for aiding Hizbullah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah as well as other insurgency groups in the Middle East, Asia and South America.

The IRGC unit was linked to the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 American soldiers. The force was also said to have been responsible for the killing of dissidents in Europe in the early 1990s.

Iran's media reported that Moinfar was stabbed repeatedly. So far, authorities have not announced the arrest of suspects.

In June, a Basij officer was stabbed to death in the Baghestan area of Teheran. Iranian opposition sources said the officer was attacked by two young Iranians after he threatened them with a pistol.

Iran has also been rocked by Kurdish unrest in the northwestern city of Mahabad. On Monday, an Iranian soldier was killed in clashes with Mahabad residents.

DoctorZin:

There are reports that this was a "signature murder" similar to the execution of other famous dissidents. Thus leading us to speculate that this murder was ordered by Rafsanjani or rogue elements associated with him. If so, it would be further evidence of a power struggle within the regime.

There are reports that this was a "signature murder" similar to the execution of other famous dissidents. Thus leading us to speculate that this murder was ordered by Rafsanjani or rogue elements associated with him. If so, it would be further evidence of a power struggle within the regime.

The original source for this information was Iran Focus http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2890 posted July 18th, i.e. before this was published http://www.menewsline.com/stories/2005/july/07_20_2.html That indicates that the "opposition" is MEK.

I think that Rafsanjani can do a lot, but I do not think that he is behind this killing.

They are feeling the heat:

IRANIAN INTELLIGENCE MINISTER AND CLAIMS TO HAVE DECEIVED U.S.

Yunesi said Iran has fed inaccurate information on its nuclear program to the United States by using double agents and taking advantage of inexperienced U.S. agents, ISNA reported. Yunesi said information on the nuclear program that is provided by the Mujahedin Khalq Organization, an opposition group based in Iraq, is unclassified. On the basis of information secured through these sources, Yunesi said, the United States urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to inspect locations where it suspected uranium enrichment was taking place. The inspections, however, failed to find anything, he said. Yunesi also warned that the United States and Israel are approaching Iranians who work in physics, biology, and other sciences, and some people have been identified. "These individuals were our national asset, but unfortunately they were unwillingly trapped by the enemies' espionage services. Today, we intend both to save their lives and prevent any harm to the country." He added that scientists should not become too friendly with strangers when they are traveling overseas, and when they attend conferences they should only go to prearranged events. BS

New Ship of an Old Fleet Made in Shiraz

After studying 47 non-Iranian and Iranian historical resources an Achaemenid ship’s original design was re-sketched. The archetype of this ship, which is a kind of “Three Room” model, was used as a battleship during Achaemenid dynasty. Now a small model of that ship has been made in Shiraz, Iran.

Tehran – July 18, 2005(CHN) -- In the construction of a new model of an Achaemenid battleship, which is made by experts of aero-marine research centre of Malek Ashtar University, all traditional and old techniques were respected.

Kambiz Alampour, administrator of “Marine and Navigation Museum of Persian Gulf” and the head of the executive team in charge of the project for construction a collection of ancient Iranian ship replicas said, “After studying 47 different resources including Iranian and non-Iranian resources we achieved the original design of the archetype. The genuine model of this ship was a kind of “three room” which was used as a battleship during Achaemenid dynasty. Now a replica in smaller size has been constructed in this centre using the traditional methods.”

This is the first ship of the collection which is made in the centre. According to Alampour the models of Qajar and Safavid ships are in the list to be made in future.

Alampour explained about the Achaemenid ship, “The model of this three-oar ship has been made in the size of 120 by 40 by 60 centimeters. According to the research has done so far, this ship had 2 big sails which are imitated exactly on the model ship as well.”

The method by which the timbers are bent and used for construction completely complies with those common methods and techniques during Achaemenid era.

Based on available resources it is widely known that Iranians had a long experience in navigation and ship making so that Iranian sailors and navy has always had an active role in bordering seas including Persian Gulf.

Achaemenids had such a powerful fleet that even nowadays marine archaeologists from Canadian archaeological institute and Greek centre for archaeological services are combing seabed off the Greek coast to find the remains of Persian battleships.

In his book, the ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, has explained about the catastrophic event which caused the Iranian fleet to capsize after colliding mount Atus in 492 BC. According to available documents the commercial marine course from southern part of Iran to the farthest ports of China were highly active during the reign of Darius the great of Achaemenid dynasty and Anoushirvan, Sasanid king of Persia.

If Pearl Harbor was the stab in the back, what will the next nuclear 911 be?

Enabled by none other than the senior and junior senators of that demo. . . .

John Kerry's good buddies in Tehran have the pedal to the metal to build a bomb and get it into the belly of the Great Satan.
