I'm going to have to make that decision with two of my dogs. The oldest is 16 and the younger is 15 and blind.
They are still active and are fun to be with.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had to put our Vickie down this past December, she was 12.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I'm sure that Sparky wants to tell you that he cares and everything is OK where he's at. God Bless.

I am so glad I decided to hold him as he received the 2 shots that gave him relief from his labored breathing.

You did something I could never do, I truly feel your loss.

Cats, dogs or whatever, just seem to fill that little spot in our souls that makes us just a little bit more human......

Its always hard to lose a pet.

I have fond memories of Sparky's contemplation of a run at the Republican nomination for the US Senate seat last year.

When the body that lived at your single will,
When its whimper is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone—wherever it goes—for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.
(From Rudyard Kipling's "Power of the Dog")

So sorry for your loss. I know you are a 'lady' from your name, but I think you'll understand the sentiment in this other favorite poem is not limited to old men ;~D:

MISSING OUR DOGS

Old Men miss many dogs.
They only live a dozen years,if that,
And by the time you are sixty, there are several
The names of which evoke remembering smiles.
You see them in your mind, heads cocked and seated.
You see them by your bed, or in the rain,
Or sleeping by the fire by nights
And always dying.

They are remembered like departed children
Though they gave vastly more than ever they took,
And finally you're seeing dogs that look like them.
They pass you in the street but never turn
Although it seems they should, their faces so familiar.
Old men miss many dogs.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sparky. You wrote him a beautiful eulogy. He was a lucky dog to have a mama who loved him so.

He's romping now through the bright sunny fields beyond the bridge, where there are no cars, there are lots of cats to annoy, and every toilet seat is up and offering cold, crisp water to drink (that was my Golden Retriever's idea of heaven...)

Our neighbors own a German Shorthaired Pointer. They are absolutely gorgeous dogs, their fur is silkier than silk, and if Dasha is typical of the breed, they have perfectly sweet dispositions.

Post pics when you find out how, I'd love to see a pic of your dear friend.

just thought it should to be here to read....

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and earth. Its called the Rainbow bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water, and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! the eyes are staring and this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be separated.

thanks from Dana and Snoopy.

Here's to Sparky:

Why animals don't live as long as people.
>
> Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker.
>
> The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.
>
> I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
>
> As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt Shane could learn something from the experience.
>
> The next day I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him.
>
> Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.
>
> Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
>
> The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.
>
> We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
>
> Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
>
> Startled we all turned to him. What came out of him mouth next stunned us...I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
>
> He said. "Everybody is born so that they can learn now to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

Good evening.

I know you hurt. My Jake is 14 years old, and I'll have to go where you are right now when he dies.

(Jake is the best English Springer I've ever had)

May you be comforted in your time of grief.

As an old teacher of mine once remarked many years ago: "The more I know man, the more I love dogs."

Their love for us is of the purest and most sincere.

I'm sure your love for him was immense and his love for you infinite.

I feel for you sooo much! I have a 23-yo cat that ain't gonna last forever. When she goes to Heaven I will be devasted. 1. You need to find a "hosting site" that will put our pics on a server that is available to the internet. I use www.photobucket.com. It is easy to use and it walks you through the process of putting pictures on the server.

2. You need to post the picture in FR. To do that, in the post you would use type the following:

<.img src="http://www.photobucket.com/something/chicagolady/sparky.jpg">

Assuming you had created an account and uploaded a photo and named it sparky.jpg. Photobucket will supply you with the entire linkname (URL) to post.

I hope this helps. FRmail me if you need more help.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. As I have said many time, if heaven doesn't have my beloved pets, then I don't want to go there. I have a kitty (the sister of my 23-yo) and a dog waiting for me there.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my very best friend of 16 years a couple years ago and I'm not anywhere close to over it. I'm missing a part of me.
