Quoted Ganji's wife as saying her husband may be living his last days.
- Muslim Wakeup reported that the International Committee in Support of Akbar Ganji, placed a full-page ad in the New York Times, appealing to the United Nations Secretary General to work for his immediate release.
- BBC News reported that the wife of journalist Akbar Ganji, says officials will not let her visit her husband, 49 days into a hunger strike, for giving interviews to foreign reporters.
- Reporters Without Borders today condemned what it called "the criminal attitude" of Iran's top leaders in refusing to release journalist Akbar Ganji, who has now been on hunger-strike for nearly 50 days.

- Yahoo News reported that the United States has concluded that Iran's president-elect was a leader of the movement behind the 1979 hostage crisis.
- Shirin Ebadi, Roozonline reminded the media that Akbar Ganji's perilous condition is just one distressing example of the dire state of Iran's political and ideological prisoners.
- Islamic Republic News Agency reported that a leading German lawmaker from the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) on Wednesday held talks with US President George W Bush on the latest developments in Iran's nuclear case.

He is dying for freedom and democracy in Iran.

I agree. Hate to say this, but I have a hunch why Bush is holding back: the risk of short term higher oil prices. Bush may want to use his political capitol at home, to beef up intel, SDI, and the military. Then, hopefully, he could liberate Iran during the last year of his administration. I hope it's earlier. And I don't want to consider him abandoning Iran the way he abandoned the Minutemen, which could also be due to oil dependency on Mexico.
Are you quite sure that Secretary Rice has not told the Iranians in the strongest terms to release this man?

113 Iranian Academics Urge Ayatollah Shahroudi to Take Action for Ganji's Release
To: Honorable Mr. Hashemi Shahroudi, Head of the Judiciary of Islamic Republic of Iran
In recent days, Mr. Ganji's physical conditions have become very worrisome. Reports given by his family and friends of his unsuitable conditions in Milad hospital have added to these concerns. In our opinion, a continuation of the present situation does not at all benefit the country and especially the judiciary and has only drawn a dark image of our beloved country abroad and created a disappointing environment inside for the people and in particular the players in the arena of thought. Mr. Ganji is one of our society's valuable thinkers and his imprisonment or any damage to his health will only deprive the country's intellectual community of one of its outstanding members.
We, the undersigned, members of the scientific and cultural community of universities inside and outside the country, express our serious concerns about the situation created, and persistently ask you to use your legal authorities as the head of the judiciary system, to provide as soon as possible for Mr. Ganji's complete freedom and proper medical treatment.

What I am understanding is that Ganji has become a popular symbol for Iranian people!
I guess his death will result in riots and rebellion in Iran.
But I hope he stays alive to help build a strong democracy in future of Iran
