The fatwa, or religious ruling, issued by American Islamic leaders against "terrorism and extremism" is "bogus," charges a leading analyst.
In a Washington press conference organized by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization called the Fiqh Council of North America said several major U.S. Muslim groups endorsed the fatwa.
"There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism," the scholars wrote. "Targeting civilians' life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram or forbidden."
The fatwa says Muslims are obligated to help "protect the lives of all civilians."
But in a 1995 speech, the head of the Fiqh Council, Muzamil Siddiqi, praised suicide bombers.
"Those who die on the part of justice are alive, and their place is with the Lord, and they receive the highest position, because this is the highest honor," he said.
Terrorism researcher and analyst Steven Emerson argues that along with the terror-related background of signatories, the decree is missing key elements.
"Nowhere does it condemn the Islamic extremism ideology that has spawned Islamic terrorism," Emerson said in a dispatch posted on Counterterrorism Blog. "It does not renounce nor even acknowledge the existence of an Islamic jihadist culture that has permeated mosques and young Muslims around the world. It does not renounce jihad let alone admit that it has been used to justify Islamic terrorist acts. It does not condemn by name any Islamic group or leader."
Emerson called it a "fake fatwa designed merely to deceive the American public into believing that these groups are moderate."
He pointed out officials of both organizations have been directly linked to Islamic terrorist groups and Islamic extremist organizations.
One is an unindicted co-conspirator in a current terrorist case; another previous member was a financier to al-Qaida.
The fatwa also does not name the perpetrators of Islamic terrorist theologies and leaders of Islamic movements, Emerson noted, such as Osama Bin Laden, Yousef Al Qaradawi and Ayman Al Zawahari.
In addition, it does not name terrorist groups, such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
The chairman of the Fiqh Council, Taha Jaber Al-Alwani, is an unindicted co-conspirator in the case against Sami al-Arian, the alleged North American leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, whose trial began last month in Tampa.
Documents released in the Al Arian trial show Alwani funded Islamic Jihad front groups in Tampa.
Another past trustee of the Fiqh Council, Abdurrahman Alamoudi, is serving a 23-year prison sentence for illegal financial dealings with Libya and immigration fraud.
Alamoudi has declared support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Recently he was named by the Treasury Department as having been a financier for al-Qaida.
In 1998, Fiqh Council member Sheikh Muhammad al-Hanooti gave a speech calling for jihad against the United States and the United Kingdom, saying that "Allah will curse the Americans and British" and "Allah, the curse of Allah will become true on the infidel Jews and on the tyrannical Americans."
Emerson also says Hanooti is strongly linked to Hamas, having served on the board of the Islamic Association for Palestine, or IAP.
The IAP has been identified by two former FBI counterterrorism chiefs as a "front group" for Hamas.
One of the groups touting the fatwa, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a spin-off of the IAP.
Several CAIR leaders have been convicted on terror-related charges.
Emerson also points out that CAIR repeatedly has attacked the prosecutions of Islamic terrorists arrested or convicted since 9-11 and has attacked the government's freezing of Islamic terrorist fronts, calling it a "war against Islam" by the United States.
Another signatory is Fawaz Damra, convicted of immigration fraud related to his ties to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He was denaturalized and awaits a deportation hearing.
Another signatory, the Muslim American Society, is a front for the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States whose publications repeatedly have supported suicide bombings.
Excuse me. think of this for just a moment before we wander off to the Woods of Relativism....
Suppose we (theoretically) eliminated Islam. Ok, now...
what terrorists are left?
"As the Mislamin [Muslim] now considers himself perfect in every point of view, it is quite natural that he holds it derogatory to his dignity to learn any trade; hence you seldom find among the Mahomedans, and this among the poorest classes, any mechanics; the rarest of all do you find them masons and carpenters, which trades are mostly supplied by Christians, and latterly also by Jews. If it is now the case that something has to be repaired in Al Charim, and the pious faithful are under the deplorable necessity to entrust this work to a Kafr, or unbeliever, in this instance always a Nazrani [Christian], because no Mislamin can be found to execute it properly, and the Jews not being permitted, according to their own Mosaic law, to enter at present the holy place, on account of the want of purification (see Num. 19:13 and 20), and as they are thus compelled to permit a Kafr to enter, they do it in this way: a black African dervish, belonging to the guard of the sanctuary, appears at the gate of the Temple Mount, takes the Nazrani on his shoulders, and bears him, running rapidly, to the spot requiring repair, the whole room in which he has to work being covered and hung round with carpets or coverlets, on which he is set down; and he is prohibited, on pain of death, to touch the bare floor in any manner. When the work is completed, he is again taken up on the shoulders of a dervish, and carried out at a running pace. As may be expected, all the places whither the Kafr has been carried must afterwards be purified by holy incense, scented drugs, and rose-water, of the Misma of the Kafr."
"The name Mislamin, Mussulman, is etymologically derived from the root Salem, perfect, complete, enlightened, faultless, or a man who has attained perfection in all his relations. The title or expression Malim, master, or doctor, is a term of offence to the Mahomedans, wherefore they are never addressed by it. "
"Should a Mahomedan be called or addressed in this manner unawares, he asks very angrily and offended, Ana Malim, Am I only a master or learned man? You have then to apologize, and to say that this offence was committed without thought, without any intention of wounding his feelings. The salutation Selam Alikun, Peace with you, should only be used among Mussulmans, but not from a non-Mahomedan to a Mahomedan, unless to offend him and be offended in turn by his rude reply. A non-Mahomedan has to address a follower of the Koran with Alla vi, God be present. Selam should be used only by and to a Selamen, Mislamin. "
"The only pity is, that the poor Mislamin is perfect already at his birth, and thus brings his perfections with him in the world like the animal, wherefore he has no necessity for any cultivation or improvement."
THEREFORE:
Since a "Muslim" is perfect, no Muslim can make a mistake or commit a sin. Therefore, people who commit acts of terror in the name of Islam are "not real Muslims" or it is just the failure of the infidel to understand the nature of "true Islam."
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Getting harder and harder to tell which side you are on, the fanatics on both sides appear to be interchangeable."
You could say the same thing about the appeasers.
A FAKEWA
I'm so impressed! The Mufti of Australia and New Zealand signed a letter in condemnation of terrorism! This is what he REALLY says when he thinks no one is listening...
The Australian Mufti Calls for Jihad; "Australia was Discovered by Afghan Muslims"
By MEMRI
MEMRI.org | February 18, 2004
The Mufti of Australia and New Zealand, Taj Al-Din Hamed Abdallah Al-Hilali, was born in Egypt's Suhag district in 1941. He graduated from Al-Azhar University and served as a preacher in Egypt, Libya, and Lebanon. In 1982 he came to Australia, and in 1988 he was appointed to his present position by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils. The following is a collection of speeches and writings by Mufti Al-Hilali: (1)
A Call for Jihad from Lebanon
In a February 13, 2004 sermon at the Al-Quds mosque while on a visit to Sidon, Lebanon, the Mufti of Australia and New Zealand, Taj Al-Din Al-Hilali, called for Jihad against Israel, and added: "The war waged by the U.S. and Israel against the Muslims is a cruel war aimed at annihilating the [Islamic] nation."
Sheikh Al-Hilali expressed amazement that various Arab countries and leaders had avoided hosting the upcoming Arab summit, and added: "In any event, we have become accustomed to the fact that these summits produce nothing, neither cockroach nor mouse.(2)
"We are in dire need of real men these days in light of the situation in Jerusalem and Palestine... Your leaders are looking for a venue and no one dares address an invitation for the leaders of this stricken nation ... because we lack strong leadership. In the past, in Arab and Islamic history, we were governed by real men, but nowadays we are governed by semi-men."(3)
Following a meeting with Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Sheikh Al-Hilali said: "I blessed Hizbullah for liberating the prisoners and the bones of the Shahids and I praised it and its sacrifice. Hizbullah has become a model for all the Mujahideen in the world... Most of the Australian people do not support the policy of the Australian government, which has placed Hizbullah on the terror list out of submission to the U.S., and the Australian prime minister will pay the price for this in the next elections...."(4)
Anti-American and Anti-Western Sentiment
This is not the first time that Sheikh Al-Hilali expressed anti-American or anti-European sentiment. In a speech in March 2003, he likened "Bush Jr." to the son of Genghis Khan, calling him "the most ignorant president to lead the White House."(5) Sheikh Al-Hilali also declared that President Bush, Australian Prime Minister John Howard, and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are the "axis of evil."(6)
Sheikh Al-Hilali said on another occasion: "The media all over the world are controlled by Zionist fingers, particularly the Western media, and that includes Australia, in which the media are under Zionist hegemony. But in Australia, which unlike the West and the U.S. is multicultural, the media are less racist in their enmity to Muslims and Islam. This is evidenced by the fact that we won the last media battle in Australia and succeeded in forcing the Australian people to treat us with respect. We have not suffered from persecution or disrespect to the same extent that Islamic communities in Western countries and in America have suffered."(7)
However, Al-Hilali believes that "the Zionist Western attack on Islam" has become the best means of its propagation: "The Muslims are like a cotton [cushion] that the upholsterer's stick only makes bigger. When the cotton is worn out and can no longer be sat upon, the upholsterer comes along and attacks it ferociously with his stick. These blows clean the cotton, cause it to swell, expand, and grow.
"Thus are the Muslims. The stick of the Western media prompted the spread of Islam, and stimulated the Westerners to hasten to acquaint themselves with it...
"The Western media attacks Islam day and night. But they are unable to hide the sun at midday. The events of September 11th in the U.S. caused a revolutionary change in the military and defensive balance of power in the world, and all the world must reexamine their considerations in light of these developments...."(8)
Support for Hizbullah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad
In one interview, Sheikh Al-Hilali accused the U.S. of terrorism and expressed support for martyrdom/suicide attacks: "There is no doubt that the U.S. is dealing with wholesale marketing of terrorism. The U.S. is the biggest agent for terrorism in the world, and Israel perpetrates terrorism, with funding and military and diplomatic support from the U.S.
"We are proud of the Islamic resistance in Palestine, Lebanon, Kashmir, and everywhere in the world that seeks to achieve its legitimate rights in accordance with the international resolutions, the human rights conventions, and the U.N. resolutions...
"We are also proud of the Islamic resistance that liberated southern Lebanon, led by Hizbullah, the legitimate Lebanese national movement, that forced the Israeli occupation army to withdraw from southern Lebanon, dragging trails of disappointment and shame behind it.
"We are also proud of what Hamas and the Islamic Jihad are both doing in the occupied territories. We support the resistance and support, with all our might, the martyrdom operations carried out by the Palestinian liberation movements, operations that are a legitimate act against the cruel occupation, according to all international norms and conventions.
"Also, whoever carries out a martyrdom [operation] is a pure Shahid and one of the men of Paradise. Moreover, he stands at the head of the Shahids."(9)

Sheik Likely To Stay As Islamic Leader
By Drew Warne-Smith
SHEIK Taj Al-Din Hilali is unlikely to be deposed as the leading Muslim cleric in Australia despite the fallout over comments attributed to him praising acts of terrorism and supporting a holy war against Israel.
Speaking on return from a pilgrimage to the Middle East, Sheik Hilali, who has held the honorary title of Mufti since 1989, claimed his words had been wrongly translated.
He created a furore when, in a disputed translation, he praised the September 11 attacks on the US as "God's work against the oppressors" and supported Arab martyrs.
Sheik Hilali told ABC Radio last night that anyone who rejoiced in or supported "the 9/11 event knows nothing about the Islam teachings".
"What is truth? Actually it was a poetry and in poetry we go a little bit into imagination of presentation. I'm fully for the Palestinian intifada which is people resisting with small stones, they are resisting rockets, there are guns. Their case has been supported by the United Nations and by human rights and I do fully support it."
But the chief executive of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Amjad Mehboob, said many Muslims were concerned Sheik Hilali's speech had been interpreted as a radical call to arms.
There was growing resentment that the Mufti was seen as the sole spokesman for Islam in Australia, he said.
While Sheik Hilali could be stripped of his position in a vote at the annual congress next month, he retained wide support and such a move was "highly unlikely", Mr Mehboob said. "It's never happened before and I don't think it will happen now.
"He's done a tremendous amount of good in the community. He has a very wide following. He's well-liked, he's down-to-earth and he's certainly not a radical."
The Mufti title was bestowed on Sheik Hilali in recognition of his leadership, but it does not make him the spiritual leader of Islam in Australia, Mr Mehboob said.
Sheik Hilali, imam of the Lakemba mosque in Sydney's southwest, was also criticised for meeting the leader of the political wing of the banned terrorist group Hezbollah during his trip to Lebanon.
Sheik Hilali's spokesman, Keysar Trad, said he had consistently denounced violence against civilians and he was confident the Mufti would retain his position.
The interpretation that the Mufti supported suicide bombings had been wrongly based on his recital of an Arabic poem about a boy who confronts a tank with a stone, he said.
PUKE! THEY DON'T MAKE BARF BAGS BIG ENOUGH!
and if YOU were a fanatic islamic intent on creating problems between the people who desire peace on both sides, that might be exactly what you would say."
fanatic islamists are not "intent on creating problems between the people who desire peace on both sides". They are intent on killing all of us.
That does not make sense.
What is your point and what is your point to my point?
'...there are societies in which lie detectors don't work, societies in which lies do not create cognitive dissonance [on which the tests are based]."'
Purely cultural differences?
I wonder if arabs and gypsies have a common ancestor?
CAIR gets most of their funding from the Saudis. Saudi Arabia =Head of the Snake
"(King Prout - will you, or somebody hit those on Charlite's ping list, please?)"
DONE.
"That does not make sense."
Sure it does, if you happen to be a fanatic Islamic intent on creating problems, why not act as if you hated Islam on an anonymous board ? You get to use the same rhetoric that the Imans use to stir up trouble, only changing the target. Fanatic Islamics and fanatic non-islamics are not that different.
"They are intent on killing all of us."
... and it appears that "us" includes many muslims who are lining up to join the Iraqi police force to stop these fanatics.
"Fanatic Islamics and fanatic non-islamics are not that different."
You want the infidel, the filthy kuffar, to 'turn the other cheek' and lie down and die quietly? Sorry, ain't gunna happen. Islam misunderestimates us. We will be victorious, we will defend ourselves.
If you do happen to issue a fatwah by accident when the time isn't right, try not to look embarrassed. Simply say excuse me, and offer to open a window or something. Never add the fact that you had double bean burritos for lunch.
Fatwahs are like people. There are many different kinds. Now, that we have covered when it's acceptable to issue fatwahs around others, let's talk about some different kinds of fatwahs...
Loud and Rowdy--Often the most embarrassing type of fatwah, these can't blamed on anyone. These are the types that feel as if they blew your backside right off of the map, and smell like it too. These are the kind of fatwahs that occur in gym class while doing sit-ups, especially when your high school crush is laying right in front of you in her burkah. These can also be the funniest, great for drunken parties and fraternity brothers.
The Fizzle--(Aka Poot and Popcorn Fatwah) These are the ones that feel like they will be a Loud and Rowdy, but end up as much less, hence known as the Fizzle. Sometimes disappointing, sometimes a lifesaver, Fizzles remind me of a firecracker that has burned out.
Silent But Deadly--These are surely the most dangerous fatwahs of them all. A SBD can slip out with least expected, and usually are the stinkiest. On the other hand, SBDs can be blamed on the dog, another person, or even George Bush.
I hope that I have helped you to learn a little bit more about fatwahs. Maybe my review will help some of you...maybe not. More than likely, at least you will get a laugh. Thank you for reading, and always remember...there's more room out than in.
P.S. Pull my finger!
"Suppose we (theoretically) eliminated Islam. Ok, now...
what terrorists are left?"
The old "kill them all, let God sort them out" theory ?
I suppose that could have worked against the IRA also, correct ?
... or we could have just flipped a coin and converted the Protestants or the Catholics to solve the problems...
Hey Fred, I thought you were off the " kill them all " kick... did you have a relapse ?
