U.S. Muslims anti-terror fatwa 'bogus' (Steve Emerson)

The fatwa, or religious ruling, issued by American Islamic leaders against "terrorism and extremism" is "bogus," charges a leading analyst.

In a Washington press conference organized by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization called the Fiqh Council of North America said several major U.S. Muslim groups endorsed the fatwa.

"There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism," the scholars wrote. "Targeting civilians' life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram – or forbidden."

The fatwa says Muslims are obligated to help "protect the lives of all civilians."

But in a 1995 speech, the head of the Fiqh Council, Muzamil Siddiqi, praised suicide bombers.

"Those who die on the part of justice are alive, and their place is with the Lord, and they receive the highest position, because this is the highest honor," he said.

Terrorism researcher and analyst Steven Emerson argues that along with the terror-related background of signatories, the decree is missing key elements.

"Nowhere does it condemn the Islamic extremism ideology that has spawned Islamic terrorism," Emerson said in a dispatch posted on Counterterrorism Blog. "It does not renounce nor even acknowledge the existence of an Islamic jihadist culture that has permeated mosques and young Muslims around the world. It does not renounce jihad let alone admit that it has been used to justify Islamic terrorist acts. It does not condemn by name any Islamic group or leader."

Emerson called it a "fake fatwa designed merely to deceive the American public into believing that these groups are moderate."

He pointed out officials of both organizations have been directly linked to Islamic terrorist groups and Islamic extremist organizations.

One is an unindicted co-conspirator in a current terrorist case; another previous member was a financier to al-Qaida.

The fatwa also does not name the perpetrators of Islamic terrorist theologies and leaders of Islamic movements, Emerson noted, such as Osama Bin Laden, Yousef Al Qaradawi and Ayman Al Zawahari.

In addition, it does not name terrorist groups, such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The chairman of the Fiqh Council, Taha Jaber Al-Alwani, is an unindicted co-conspirator in the case against Sami al-Arian, the alleged North American leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, whose trial began last month in Tampa.

Documents released in the Al Arian trial show Alwani funded Islamic Jihad front groups in Tampa.

Another past trustee of the Fiqh Council, Abdurrahman Alamoudi, is serving a 23-year prison sentence for illegal financial dealings with Libya and immigration fraud.

Alamoudi has declared support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Recently he was named by the Treasury Department as having been a financier for al-Qaida.

In 1998, Fiqh Council member Sheikh Muhammad al-Hanooti gave a speech calling for jihad against the United States and the United Kingdom, saying that "Allah will curse the Americans and British" and "Allah, the curse of Allah will become true on the infidel Jews and on the tyrannical Americans."

Emerson also says Hanooti is strongly linked to Hamas, having served on the board of the Islamic Association for Palestine, or IAP.

The IAP has been identified by two former FBI counterterrorism chiefs as a "front group" for Hamas.

One of the groups touting the fatwa, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a spin-off of the IAP.

Several CAIR leaders have been convicted on terror-related charges.

Emerson also points out that CAIR repeatedly has attacked the prosecutions of Islamic terrorists arrested or convicted since 9-11 and has attacked the government's freezing of Islamic terrorist fronts, calling it a "war against Islam" by the United States.

Another signatory is Fawaz Damra, convicted of immigration fraud related to his ties to Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He was denaturalized and awaits a deportation hearing.

Another signatory, the Muslim American Society, is a front for the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States whose publications repeatedly have supported suicide bombings.

Yep, I had a relapse. Chanced to tune into a lecture by a bearded young fanatic who made it quite clear to his gender-mixed muslim audience in Sydney that the koran explicitly forbids contact with the evil kuffar who can never be taken as friends by a muslim, that the evil joooos are behind terrorism, Osama had nothing to do with 9/11, the 'planes were fitted with bombs, (by Mossad) that's why they exploded, no muslim would kill an innocent civilian, the koran says if one innocent is killed, it's like killing the whole world...(which, by the way, is just the first part of a 'verse' addressed at Jews as a warning not to hurt muslims, or they will be dealt with harshly!) I've had it, I'm sick of the lies. I'm sick of the muslims believing they are born perfect, that they can kill, lie, cheat, rob, mutilate, decapitate, commit genocide, simply because 'allah' is understanding, merciful and kind???? The Group this germ-face leads in Sydney is banned in several countries already and will obviously soon be banned in Australia as well. It's time to do what we always knew we would eventually be forced to do, and that is deport them regardless of the fact that we unwisely gave them citizenship - it's their choice - if they want to live here, they can become Australians as all the other millions of migrants did over the past sixty years or get the h*ll back to the hell-hole they came from.

Even a cursory perusal of the Koran and Sunnah/Hadiths will reveal violence and intolerance at the core of Islam's belief system. In particular, Muslims who espouse peaceful practices are held in contempt within Islam. For example, take a look at Qur'an 33:60

"Truly, if the Hypocrites, those in whose hearts is a disease, those who stir up sedition, the agitators in the city, do not desist, We shall urge you (Muhammad) to go against them and set you over them. Then they will not be able to stay as your neighbors for any length of time. They shall have a curse on them. Whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain without mercy—a fierce slaughter—murdered, a horrible murdering. (Such was) the practice (approved) of Allah among those who lived before. No change will you find in the practice of Allah."

They don't mean it. They're against "terrorism" - read Israeli and Western acts of self-defense against Islamic terrorists. But they consider the slaughter of infidels to be Islamic acts of self-defense. Its all in the eye of the beholder and CAIR has written a fatwa that lets Islam's centuries long war on the Western World continue without letup. Just who are they trying to kid?

MUSLIMS CONDEMN TERROR...OR DO THEY?

Good news yesterday. Muslims finally publicly condemned terrorism. Islamic scholars in the U.S. and Canada issued a "fatwa" (an Islamic ruling, for you government school types) stating that targeting innocent people is forbidden and that those who commit such acts of violence are criminals, rather than martyrs. American Muslim leaders say they're frustrated that many equate the Islamic faith with terrorism.

So this seems to be a bit of good news. But wait! If you actually start to look at the messenger, you begin to realize that all is not as it seems. As a number of bloggers noticed, the press conference announcing the Fatwa was organized by CAIR, The Council on American Islamic Relations. The group making the announcement was something called the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA.) Here's just a sampling of some of the people affiliated with these groups, and their ties to terrorism:

--Taha Jaber Al-Alwani, Chairman of the FCNA, named in court papers as being associated with Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian terror group.

--Sheikh Muhammad al-Hanooti (such long names aren't they?,) who serves on the Fiqh council, has in the past called for jihad against the United States and Great Britain. Among his greatest hits: "Allah, the curse of Allah will become true on the infidel Jews and on the tyrannical Americans."

As for CAIR --- this crowd has repeatedly covered for the Islamic terror groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad. They have called the War On Terror a "War Against Islam."

So just in case anybody is getting all warm in fuzzy inside about American Muslim groups finally condemning terrorism, you'll have to consider the source on this one. Good sign? Yes ... let's see if the follow-through is there, or if this is just a PR response to increasing anger toward the wonderful, peaceful religion of Islam. When they turn in a few Al Qaeda cells operating in the United States perhaps I'll start to believe them.
