ATHENS, Greece -- An autopsy on the body of the co-pilot of a Cyprus airliner that crashed killing all 121 on board shows he was alive when the plane went down, a private Greek television channel has reported.
...more:
Officials on Tuesday said they had found only the exterior container of the cockpit voice recorder from the plane, hampering investigative efforts into the accident's cause.
The device's internal components were ejected from the container when the plane crashed into a mountainous region north of Athens on Sunday, Akrivos Tsolakis, head of the Greek airline safety committee, told The Associated Press.

What's a fish sound like?
The story does seem to be getting weirder.
Alive doesn't mean responsive. Just means that he still had a pulse.
Agreed. But who did the f16 pilots see moving about??
As in "slumped over the seat".
How the heck does a black box break apart in a crash. They have worked for over 20 years without fail.
This is getting weird.
my problem is that the voice recorder was "ejected" from its housing. i thought those things were designed to take tremendous abuse.
Passengers trying to take control of the plane and land it? That's the most logical explanation.
BUT
I'm thinking they would have radioed the tower or signaled to the F-16's.
Man, there are so many questions surrounding this one.
Did they find the other pilot's body? The fighters (why were fighters scrambled anyway) reported seeing one pilot in the cockpit, not the other.
How common is it for those cases holding the flight recorders to pop open, and why was the data recorder sent to Paris?
The wildest thing about that article is the photo of the guy they arrested with the big cut over his eye and the caption saying he "fell" at the police station, LOL. Sure....
I guess I need to post that pic from Signs with the tin foil hats, but it sure is a bizarre series of events.
One more question for those in the "know." When Payne Stewart's plane decompressed, I remember they couldn't see in the windows. How come the fighter pilots could see in the windows of this plane if it had decompressed?
No, not anything in this article. But it's odd that initial reports from the crash site reported bodies "frozen solid". What I find more strange is reports that the plane had been on autopilot with no communication for a long time -- long enough that investigators are speculating it may have run out of fuel -- before it crashed, and the general impression I've gotten is that the fighter pilots weren't sent up to have a look until fairly shortly before the crash. Especially in the age of terrorism, and with a flight over Europe (i.e. as opposed to a transoceanic flight which is out in the middle of nowhere for a long period), shouldn't there be some system under which control towers make radio contact with pilots (or vice versa) on a fairly frequent basis, with lack of contact setting off alarms?
Unconscious from a lack of oxygen would still qualify as "alive" Keep the tinfoil hat handy but don't don it just yet
Ever seen Finding Nemo? Fish sound remarkably like Albert Brooks.
ALIENS DID IT! IT WAS HEADED TO AREA 51!
good point, i would think the windows would be iced over.
Very strange, getting into 'Twilight Zone' territory.

They didnt say exterior container then.
Either someone made assumptions in that article, someone made statements to that reporter without knowing the facts, or perhaps they know exactly what happened and dont want voice recording to get out.
I just re-watched Broken Arrow the other day. One of John Revoltas better flicks plus it had Howie Long in it
Anyway, if Christian Slater hadnt seen Dopeys reflection in the canopy he would have been slumped over in his seat too.
