DC Chapter After Action Report TURN ON YOUR NEWS!

Posted on 08/17/2005 7:04:56 PM PDT by StayAt HomeMother

Y’all might want to watch your local / national 10 and 11 pm news for tonight’s FReep in front of the White House.

(Mod – please allow this to stay in “Breaking News” for an hour or so.)

Kristinn just called as they were wrapping up. Here is his phoned-in report:

There were about 300 of “them” and 18 of “us.”

We started out in front of the Andrew Jackson statue facing H Street, but the Park Police sent us on our way because we did not have a permit.

We moved to in front of the White House on Pennsylvania Ave and set up the MOAB. For a picture of this banner see: "4-Corner FReep of Code Pink's Quagmire at Walter Reed, Aug 12 (Heavy graphics, Join us Aug 19!)"

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1465323/posts

“They” left their location and followed us. “They” were “ticked off” by our presence and one of “them” asked, “How come you FReepers always have the big signs?” Kristinn replied, “We’re good, man, we’re good.”

They (the lefties and the media) wouldn’t leave us alone. The police had to tell everyone to pipe down.

That was ironic because “they” were supposed to be having a silent vigil. They sang their old 60’s protest songs and chanted such original sayings “No Blood For Oil.”

We had lots of flags – Kristinn saw only two of “them” holding a couple of small American flags.

“Andy” came tonight (see the Walter Reed After Action Reports for more about her.) Also on our side tonight was Kevin Pannell, the Vet who lost both his legs in Iraq. (Again, see last Friday’s AAR for a picture of him.)

One woman showed us a picture of seven relatives in uniform with the eighth relative, a woman, soon to join them. She said, supporting the FReepers,“This is why you are out here tonight.”

{This is the end of what Kristinn reported to me staying here at home. They’ll report in as they get home.}

You do not have to be in Texas to show support for the Troops.

Visit your local military base today and at least once a week.

Or a military or veteran hospital.

If you can't do that then send an e-mail or packeage
to our troops for morale support.

We need coast to coast support for the troops, now, more than ever.

I'll bet Hanoi Kerry and Hanoi Jane are supplying funds and
morale support for the left.

We need to make an example of these 2 traitors from the 60's.

Anyone who thinks Hanoi Kerry isn't behind the anti war crowd needs to get a clue.

Spineless US Senate would rather protect Hanoi Kerry
than deal with the anti war crowd.

It's time to support our troops and ignore the jelly fish in the US Senate!

There is no need to impeach Hanoi Kerry from the US Senate

He is there illegally!

WAKEUP AMERICA!

For those who "forgot" what Hanoi Kerry
did in the past read on and learn the truth.

Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen

Why is Kerry still in the US Senate?
This is in violation of

And the FBI has proof of his treason.

Crawford War Protesters Lead Peace Vigil

Updated 10:17 PM ET August 17, 2005

Hundreds of candlelight vigils calling for an end to the war in Iraq got underway Wednesday in a national effort spurred by one mother's anti-war demonstration near President Bush's ranch.

The vigils were urged by Cindy Sheehan, who has become the icon of the anti-war movement since she started a protest Aug. 6 in memory of her son Casey, who died in Iraq last year.

Sheehan says she will camp outside Bush's ranch until his monthlong vacation ends or he meets with her and other grieving families.

Bush has said he sympathizes with Sheehan but has made no indication he will meet with her. Two top Bush administration officials talked to Sheehan the day she started her camp, and she and other families met with Bush shortly after her son's death.

More than 1,600 vigils were planned from coast to coast Wednesday, according to the organizers, liberal advocacy groups MoveOn.org Political Action, TrueMajority and Democracy for America. A large vigil was also set at Paris' Peace Wall, a glass monument near the Eiffel Tower that says "peace" in 32 languages.

As the sun set in Crawford, about 100 protesters lit candles and placed them in plastic cups to shield them from the breeze. They gathered around a wooden, flag-draped coffin.

In Concord, N.H., about 150 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder Wednesday outside the Statehouse holding candles and signs supporting Sheehan.

Karen Braz, 50, brought a pink votive cup shaped like flower petals and a sign that read "Moms for Peace."

"My son is 26. It could've been him," she said, her voice breaking.

Some critics say Sheehan is exploiting her son's death to promote a left-wing agenda supported by her and groups with which she associates. They say scores of Americans, including relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq, support Bush and his plans to keep troops there.

FreeRepublic.com, which holds rallies to support troops and to counter anti-war demonstrations, planned to hold a pro-Bush rally Wednesday night at the same time and same Washington, D.C., park as a candlelight vigil there.

"For us the organizers of the vigil are phony-baloney, betraying the sacrifices that those, men and women make in Iraq, by demanding that we pull our troops out now and leave Iraq to go to hell," said Kristinn Taylor, co-leader of the group's Washington, D.C., chapter. "This is a publicity stunt."

Some 200 people took part in a peace vigil in Cincinnati's Fountain Square. Many carried candles, but were told not to light them because of potential harm to the downtown landmark. Demonstrators softly sang "Give Peace A Chance" and lined one side of the square with signs, drawing honks of support from some passing motorists.

In Hawaii, Kalihi Valley resident Charmaine Crockett expected at least 140 people to gather Wednesday evening in the backyard of her hilltop house to light candles in sympathy for Sheehan.

"I'm very moved by one person making a difference," Crockett said. "This isn't an anti-war protest. The beauty of it lies in its silence ... And I never expected it to get this large."

Several dozen people gathered in front of the state Capitol in Madison, Wis., for the vigil there.

Carol Berglund, 56, of Madison, had a sign attached to the back of her bicycle reading, "It's time for peace. Stop the war."

"I don't think we ever should have gone there. I think it's immoral to be the starters of a war, to be the aggressors," Berglund said.

Great report.

I would just add that we had 22 counting a father and his son who joined us as well as a mother and her 3 kids. They all held signs and/or flags with us so I believe in counting them.

I will post an After-Action Report after I've sorted through and processed dozens of photos.

From a Reuters Article:

Gilda, a 56-year-old mother of a Marine and member of "Military Families Speak Out" said Sheehan had put a face on the military families that are bearing the burden of the war.

"The rest of the population is largely oblivious," she said. "I mean they support the war. They put yellow magnets on their cars. They go out and wave flags in everybody's face, but why aren't they there. It's only us carrying this."

About a dozen counter-protesters stood close by beneath a huge banner that read "God bless our soldiers, liberating the world one tyrant at a time."

I was able to catch the local ABC and CBS news reports in the DC area on these "vigils." The CBS covered the pro-Cindy Move-on types, and interviewed some pro-military veterans at the Marine Corps Iwo Jima memorial, but there was no images of the FReepers. ABC7, on the other hand, had some great video coverage of the FReep. Here are some captures I made:

The "MOAB" (Mother of All Banners) and some FReepers are looking great supporting our troops.
