NOAA - NHC ^ | 27 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/27/2005 8:05:55 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane warnings and watches are posted. Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast models continue to converge upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this very large and dangerous storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. There have been reports of coastal animals leaving in droves for higher ground. Meanwhile, New Orleans continues to suggest that residents evacuate.

It's cute -- I should have "gotten it" the first time. :)

Jim Cantore has spent the morning urging viewers to think of Katrina as "the second coming of Camille."

Hey Jim, do you want to be mayor?

Does the Mayor ALWAYS sound stoned?

He sounds that way to me every time I hear him.

My brother just called from Sevierville, TN. He said he concerned about the tornadoes and flooding this will bring.

I hate to sound testy about this but there are a couple of million people here on the Gulf Coast who would be happy to trade places with a guy a 1,000 miles inland, who might see flooding.

Mayor: city may commandeer buildings, vehicles, etc, deemed 'needed' to help in this evac.

Everyone in LA and neigboring areas:
Please take care, evacuate and be safe! Prayers coming your way.Hope everyone makes it through okay.
I know it's like comparing apples and-well,frankly,rutabagas-but
I live in the Northern Neck of VA and experienced Isabel (Cat1) and I have to say I NEVER want to go through that again. I can't imagine anyone wanting to stay on the coast
with a Cat 5 coming. Please be careful.

Bottom line from the order:

Emergency personnel have the authority to commandeer tall buildings to use as refuges of last resort.
