I only know it from M*A*S*H. Whenever they had to move the hospital on very short notice, everyone would be crying "Bugout!"

For God's sake--President Bush called the Governor "to please ensure there is a mandatory evacuation."

Bugout is a military evacuation. Speaking of, the 4th MAW and 4th MarDiv Hq are there, right on the east side of the river in the F. Edward Hebert defense building.
I hope they've ordered that building locked down and the NSA across the river evacuated, not to mention the aircraft at Belle Chase.

As to Chalmette, well, there goes the refineries. It's a refinery city so you can expect oils prices to go nuts on Monday.Hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the heads-up.

The Mayor and his staff will organize a bucket brigade. Useless but will show the people he cares while using perks to get his family and possessions evacuated (At least he had a plan for his family).

Is it the 15 foot high dike with the 20 foot surge?

Gov. says I-10 out of NO is total gridlock. Sheesh!
To: NautiNurse
For God's sake--President Bush called the Governor "to please ensure there is a mandatory evacuation."It would be interesting to know if the mayor was going to reach this decision on his own, or it took a TRUE leader to convince him that an evacuation was necessary.

They just showed a shot of some interstate (I have no idea which one or at what point) but traffic was not moving at all. I think that would be worse than being on the 5th or 6th floor of a tall building or even on the 3rd floor of a rowhome.
I think I'd get out of my car and hike!
How many miles inland does one have to be to be safe from the surge?
