Hurricane warnings and watches are posted. Hurricane Katrina continues to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico. The forecast models continue to converge upon New Orleans. However, all interests in the northern Gulf of Mexico should follow the path of this very large and dangerous storm, and be prepared for a major hurricane landfall. There have been reports of coastal animals leaving in droves for higher ground. Meanwhile, New Orleans continues to suggest that residents evacuate.

I only know it from M*A*S*H. Whenever they had to move the hospital on very short notice, everyone would be crying "Bugout!"
For God's sake--President Bush called the Governor "to please ensure there is a mandatory evacuation."
Speaking of, the 4th MAW and 4th MarDiv Hq are there, right on the east side of the river in the F. Edward Hebert defense building.
I hope they've ordered that building locked down and the NSA across the river evacuated, not to mention the aircraft at Belle Chase.

Gov. says I-10 out of NO is total gridlock. Sheesh!
It would be interesting to know if the mayor was going to reach this decision on his own, or it took a TRUE leader to convince him that an evacuation was necessary.

I grew up where i could see Michoud's big building, and smell the Folgers plant...The thought of these being threatened gives me the shivers.
No, I haven't heard about the NO hospitals.
Between the governor and the mayor--I am sputtering...
They just showed a shot of some interstate (I have no idea which one or at what point) but traffic was not moving at all. I think that would be worse than being on the 5th or 6th floor of a tall building or even on the 3rd floor of a rowhome.
I think I'd get out of my car and hike!
