To: Trust but Verify

So let's talk about where to donate.

Red Cross has the biggest presence, but I don't trust them too much since 9/11 business.

I usually trust the Salvation Army, but this link says they're going to send in canteens...now how is that going to happen.

Anybody hear of other agencies in the city at this time.

Southern Baptist food kitchens were some of the first to show up. They were trying to figure out where to start cooking and distributing food.

Catholic Charities maybe, Jewish family and Childrens might be good. The Catholics in Louisiana have incredible charitable organizations.

I am just weeping here.

Southern Baptist Disaster relief. 100% of the donations go to the disaster relief. The red cross uses them for the actual work. They have the mobile kitchens, showers, food, clothing, etc. ready to go.

I usually give to the Savation Army, too. They have very low overhead expenses, so more of the donations actually get to the people in need. They will get canteens in as fast as possible. They will serve both the rescuers and the refugees.

The local Red Cross agencies are excellent.

When they say canteens, they mean 53ft trailers, with fully functional kitchens and washing facilites. They do the best work, and are usually the first on the scene.

Those canteens can do 20,000 meals/day per canteen. So, it's not like a mom and pop operation.
