Skip to comments.Astonishing Exclusive From Mississippi [hundreds if not thousands dead]
Posted on 08/30/2005 10:10:45 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache
It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.
More to follow....
Lord God have mercy...
Help them, help them Father. We lift our hands to You - Father of all, Father who knows what it is like to lose a Son -
Father who holds those who weep, and weeps with us. Have mercy Lord we pray...
You could tell by the look on Haley Barbour's face, and his manner, the first night that he was afraid of something like this.
My prayers for your friend for this horrible task laying before him. May he have peace for his mind, soul, and heart for his task.
There is no possible way I can believe this... no possible way.
A reporter from CNN was with a rescue crew during the night, trying to rescue people trapped in their homes. You could hear people screaming for help or moaning. Dogs in the neighborhood were barking and howling. The sounds were hideous. They found one elderly woman, alive, washed up in some tall shrub or tree, with a badly damaged leg.
The rescue boat is next to a house, and the water is so high that the rescuers are looking DOWN at the roof. The water is almost up to the apex of the roof, and inside is someone still hanging on, with only a few inches of breathing space left.
The reporter was weeping throughout her report.
Yet in the media, all we hear about is New Orleans. It's like the rest of the states don't matter, at least to the media.
Prayer Warriors needed here ping!
May they rest in peace with GOD.
I don't even have anything to post.
sorry guess I am not the metorologist I thought I wasn't...
any other semantics points of mine you would like to correct?
There is a reason it's been so quite. FEMA modeling said over 50k could die in a situation like this.. I sure hope they are way off.
How unspeakably horrible. I can only shake my head.
I had a feeling this was coming ... so many people made the fatal mistake of trying to ride it out. God bless the survivors and please give strength to the rescuers who have such a hard job to do. God bless America. God ... bless ... America.
I have lost signal with him now...now saying all circuits are busy...damn
the picture is bleak. Thanks for bringing reality into stark picture....God Help Us All and give us the ability to help those in need right now in America.
Time to suspend United States foreign aid until further notice.
Oh Lord please, I humbly ask that you accept the souls of those who lost their lives into your loving arms. And I ask that you please help heal the hearts of those who are left here to morn their loss.
Slidell looked the same. Sad.
Tass and Pravda in the USSR also blocked bad news. Sovietization of America is ongoing, and control of the news is part of it.
is there a precedent for this?
please dont propagate this myth.....gulfport and biloxi were forecast to get full ne eyewall surge at least 24 hours in advance of landfall.....the "wobble" was a few miles and landfall occured exactly where predicted.
If I had to guess, they don't want to scare the people outside the affected area with the damage tolls. But, like the tsunami, the numbers and images got out, and that is when the relief efforts started pouring in.
On FoxNews this evening, they were showing communities that had been leveled to the cement foundations. All the pads were clean. If there were any people in those homes, they'd have to be dead. I can understand the drive to stay near your home, but when it comes to hurricanes, I'd leave the area.
One thing is for certain, this will probably alter how future hurricanes are handled, with evacuations not being up to the individual.
For safety and looting reasons, landfall areas should be evacuated completely IMO.
How many were left within a mile of the coastline?
They probably don't know. I have heard several times a reporter say, "Nothing has been heard at all from so and so".
Someone earlier on FR mentioned a whole town had disappeared, no one heard from them. And someone looked it up and saw it was a town of over 20,000. So this may well be.
Don't forget the reporters claimed 20 or 30 thousand would be dead in the World Trade Center attack on 9/11. That figure turned out to be way off.
If I was speculating as to why they might only give out the worst case scenario numbers, I'd guess it could be when the real numbers come out, it makes the disaster not seem so bad. They want the American people to go back to sleep and never hold anyone in government accountable.
....and here I was thinking the death toll was pretty low BECAUSE I haven't seen bodies on the TV.
agreed Russian has made ovatures of help ealier today, but that has been the only one that I have heard.
I think the reality of this will settle in over the next few days when the body count start rolling out. I think the only reason that the Government (fed and state) have not release anything yet, is that they do not want to create a rush of people to the area trying to find out about family members or create a panic in those states.
I wonder if once the #'s are out if the international wallet will come out? I doubt it unfortunatly...
When you speak with him next, tell him that a bunch of us are praying with and for him, for his herculean effort, and with the grace only G_d can provide.
Oh, Dear Lord...
Prayers sent for the survivors and those working so hard to recsue them...
We've still seen so little of this... what we have seen is incredibly horrific. I mentioned what happened in Galveston last night on one of the hurricane threads and was quickly told I was wrong.. This looks like Galveston on a larger scale in my opinion. The before and after high resolution shots of the area show extreme physical changes to the landscape. This wall of water meant business, and no one who came in contact with it in a regular frame structure had much chance of living.
I also hope for the best, but I'm also planning for the worst.
Anyone know about conditions in Slidell? I have an uncle there and i still don't know if he got out or not..
I am not sure if anyone else caught this but on CNN Monday morning two students, a male and female, from Tulane (I think) were being interviewed. One, the male, was wearing a tie-dye peace sign T-shirt.
When asked why he stayed in New Orleans he said, chuckling and sounding and acting much like Jeff Spicoli, "My parents wanted me to stay" then said "This is fun." Maybe not exact quotes but close to it. I wonder how this child feels now?
The focus of the threat was on New Orleans, not MS.
A legit news report that mentions a large amount of dead bodies...
When you hear from your friend again, please let him know that all Americans are so grateful for people like him, our paramedics. They save our lives every day, and now in a crisis like this, they are the only hope for so many. God bless him.
I just can't pray hard enough for the people who have been caught up in this horrifying tragedy. :(
I have been expecting this considering the lack of commucnications and resources.
Oh my, just oh my. This is reality hitting hard. I've been dreading this news.
My God, I was afraid this was going to happen. I lived there for two and half years on my sailboat when I worked at Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant. For those of you that are familiar with my post about my boat, "Georgia Peach II" and "Peaches the Cat" who lived with me, this is where I was talking about. I had the boat in both Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis. I have lost part of my life. Please pray for these poor people.
Worse than Galveston 1900.
That is terrible :-(
My son came home from work and said "thousands" and I told him he was mis-informed.
My brain can't wrap around this.
I'm in the newspaper business (sad but true) ... if you were able to get this information from your friend, I can't understand why the MSM isn't reporting this. What are they waiting for ... official confirmation? Surely, they can get someone to talk - anyone.
Heavenly Father, we come to You with heavy hearts. Oh Lord, SUCH devastation...
Lord, please help the living, help them be rescued very soon. Comfort the families who've lost their loved ones and their homes. Time is running out for so many, Lord. I pray for all of the rescue workers, for the police, the National Guard...Lord, give them the strength they're going to need to deal with this tragic situation.
We pray, God, for the children, for the ill, for the elderly. Lord, I ask you to soften the hearts of the looters, to make them STOP now...to stop this madness.
Oh Lord, we're hurting...please hear our prayer. In Your Holy Name,
