Looks like plans are already made for us. Panic stricken motorists are out gobbling gasoline in cars and containers is making problems for everybody. Happened in the 70's. Panic buying is not the answer, but remaining calm and buying when you REAALLy need to is. I believe that rationale thinking on everyones part will make the gasoline go farther, quite frankly, they're worse than looters in NO.

Still, may be time to get one of those scooters at Pep boys Auto.

I'm thinking of getting one of them.

Regular Gas in central NJ tonight was as high as $3.03, Shell had it at $2.79 and BP had it at $2.83. I filled my tank and it was $55.00.

By tomorrow I expect all the stations will be over $3.00 and the gas stations were so busy...there were lines, like the ones you would see before a blizzard is coming.

An abberation. I saw the tape locally - the station across the street from that place had it at $2.89 and one up the street at $3.39.

Well, I hope Gov. Perdue spells 'abberation' as 'gouging' and busts his ass up and down Peachtree Street first thing tomorrow on his way to court.

Well, if there's a "run" on gas, I'd say what's going on is Supply vs. Demand.

I haven't read the whole thread. But I have ONE question:

AMidst all this destruction, all this disruption of energy supplies, all this widespread human suffering and the ripple effects of this horrible NATURAL disaster......Does this not bring into focus the absolutely crippling effects a nuclear attack would bring upon this country, in say a nexus of technology and energy like....HOUSTON?????

Austin, TX / Cedar Park TX, anywhere from 2.49 - 2.89 for regular. The one station that had 2.43 yesterday was 2.60 this PM.

I'm in Arizona and yesterday morning gas at one station we drove by was 1.59 on our way back by that station an hour later it was 2.79...Today it is 2.83 at Shell who normally runs much higher than the rest...The Arizona Republic has varying prices throughout Metro Phoenix and their are stations at 2.58.

Paid 2.83 in San Diego. The first station (Arco) I went to had no gas. However, I've seen this before at this station so it may have been some other problem.

Balimore County, Maryland - On my way home from work tonight I saw a worker at a gas station raising the prices on the sign over $3.00 per gallon for regular.

FYI...in the south suburban Chicagoland area I noticed some stations did not have the "jacked-up" price any my way home from work...and lines were forming there.(2.83 for 87 octane, 3.09 I think for 93 octane) The jacked up prices started at 3.49 for 87 octane, I'm sure its higher within the city. I imagine some price gouging is going on. Luckily I filled both of my vehicles up on Sunday. I've found, through some planning ahead and conservation, I can go about three weeks until I have to fill up both vehicles again.

Station around the corner went up only 14 cents in the past two days to $2.73/gal (we'll see about tomorrow ;). A couple miles up the road another place had it for $2.95 -- not too many cars there though...

Michigan...$3.19 along the major routes. Some places have nothing but premium...and some have nothing at all.

I traveled from Southern to Mid-Michigan today...my girlfriend was traveling North...same deal.

This is really not good.

This makes for a dry run for Homeland Security.

That's because everyone is panicking and topping off their tanks...that happened here in Arizona when the pipeline from Cali broke and prices went to 3 bucks overnight... There were long lines to get gas...After about 2 weeks when people realized they werern't gonna die without gas, things calmed back down...
