Doesn't sound very convincing. I don't think there is anyone I trust anymore.
Travis McGee in an earlier reply to another thread has provided the coffin and wooden stake to handle the soon to be former mayor of N O's.:
I hope that sooner or later the MSM discovers that New Orleans did have a written emergency plan to cover the evacuation of the poor, but that the idiot mayor of New Orleans ignored it, and allowed the evacuation buses to be ruined by the flood, forgotten.
The city leaders had at least two full days to use these hundreds of buses to evac the poor, exactly as their own emergency management plan called for.
Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states: 5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.
There are several people here who think the federal government should have been sitting around watching FOX and CNN instead of focusing on the worst natural disaster to ever strike this country. Of course, those same folks seem to be totally oblivious to the fact that the entire Gulf Coast has been wiped out, don't seem to give a da*n about the millions of other folks who are suffering, haven't bothered to read the constitution (only 14 lousy pages FGS) and couldn't tell you what the 10th amendment was if their lives depended on it.
You wouldn't be one of those painfully ignorant people, would you?
What do you need to be convinced? Hidden video footage of Mayor and Governor conspiring to shift the blame? How about Chertoff saying, "May God strike me dead if I am not telling the truth?"
Many Freepers have came to the conclusion that most of the tragedy in New Orleans could have been avoided if the Mayor had implemented page 13 of the Southeast Louisiana Evacuation Plan, 2000 revision, which reads in part:
"The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating."
(See page 13, section B, part 5 of this document)
Recall that there are many hundreds, maybe thousands of New Orleans buses that are currently underwater that could have been used to evacuate the poor and disabled. Also recall that Nagin waited until virtually the last minute to order the 'mandatory-in-name-only' evacuation.
And then there was this from another post: ". . . the federal plan advises state and local emergency managers not to expect federal aid for 72 to 96 hours, and base their own preparedness efforts on the need to be self-sufficient for at least that period".
Nagin, Broussard, and other New Orleans officials are blaiming the feds big-time in hopes the Bush-hating media will not challenge the local officials on their evacuation and recovery preparation blunders.
It is a fact -- Oklahoma's Lt Governor was NEVER asked by LA to help and she had to declare an emergency to send out NG there under FEMA. FEMA made the request.
But of course, you who hate Bush will never admit it wasn't the Administration's fault. :(
Join the crowd. I have been that way for several years now. I don't trust much of anyone any more. I have seen, heard, and had too many lies told to me by my government, my so-called leaders, even friends. You trust in God. That is the only person I believe in any more. The rest, well, they just do to meet their own personal agenda. That is why I trust few, if any, to carry through. Sad, I know. But, way too much crap has happened.
While I'm disgusted by the MSM's bald attempt to make this an ugly partisan issue with all their fingerpointing towards the Bush Administration, I'm perplexed by Chertoff's statement that he wasn't told of the problems at the Convention Center until Thursday.
Is the media twisting his words to make him seem ignorant of what we all could have seen on television? Surely he had seen it on Television, so my only guess is that he was saying that he hadn't HEARD an OFFICIAL report from Governor Blanco.
Anybody else see it this way?
>>I don't think there is anyone I trust anymore.<<
Amen. Government serves itself and it's cash cows first. They're not on our side.
You must be kidding. After watching that collection of corrupt RAT clowns you can't be serious about doubting the feds' word. Nor must you have ANY knowledge about that cesspool called Louisiana politics. It sounds completely consistent with that state's past.
Wait a minute. You actually trusted someone in government? What gave you a weird notion to do something like that?!? LOL
Nor should you ultimately trust the government. That was never how the US governments were designed to operate.
Trust only in your own "rugged independence". That IS the American way!
The failure of New Orleans is the failure of the Great Society experiment.
You do realize that their is going to be an investigation on this. If he is lying, it will be painfully clear to the investigators. Think the "News Media" is not frantically digging for "proof" that he is lying? Pity they aren't nearly so interested in finding out what happened to all the Fed Homeland Security money given to the State of LA and the City of NO for 1st Responders and Disaster Contingency planning.
