75 votes is filibuster proof!
It's all so silly.
We voted Bush in...therefore, we voted for Bush's choice.
This one will sail through with the usual garbage spewing from kennedy and his ilk. The next one may be a little tougher though.
This is excellent news, though not surprising.
Now that the hearings have been delayed a bit, does anyone know when they are supposed to begin?
Thursday, Friday, or Monday at latest.
In reality it means the Democrats know that trying to Bork Roberts isn't in their best interest especially since it won't change the makeup of the Court.
She can vote if she isn't jailed for threatening the president with physical violence.
You're right about Roberts. Probably right about the second one, though if Bush plays his cards right (Edith Clement of Louisiana), he won't have much trouble with that confirmation hearing.
"Thursday, Friday, or Monday at latest."
Cool! Thanks...
With that said, I am wondering here in almost complete ignorance. What duties and responsibilities does the Chief have that the other Justices don't?

I would be happy if some Republican lawmakers could expose (or find) Robert's conservative record.
IF the chief justice is on the majority vote side, he can either write the opinion himself or decide who gets to write it. There was one long service chief who frequently switched sides when he was losing just so he could write the opinion himself.
The chief also sets the weekly agenda at meetings that decide which cases are to be heard. It doesn't sound like much but in practice it can really influence the direction of the court. He has considerable influence over which cases are heard, but technically each justice has equal vote in it.
The Chief justice presides over impeachments and swears in the president.
Thanks for the info. I have learned that it is more than ceremonial.
Have you seen the new commercial about Judge Ginsberg? It's great!
No I haven't heard about it, what is it like?
When the day again arrives when a democrat selects a SC justice, the Republicans will honor the president's choice and fall into line without complaint. No spunk, no fire, no fight.
