  1. Do you approve of the way the mainstream media is handling its job of reporting on the war in Iraq?
    1. 05% - Yes
    2. 93% - No
    3. 02% - Abstained

Our society (Human Rights Society in Babel) has conducted a survey among Babel residents, with regard to their confidence in the freedom of press in Iraq. The sample has included 527 persons, 250 women and 277 men.  Each was asked to answer the following questions:

  1. Do you believe in the existence of freedom of press in Iraq?
    1. 53% - Yes
    2. 41% - No
    3. 06% - Abstained
  2. Do you believe that the Iraqi press is playing its full role at present?
    1. 73% - Yes
    2. 22% - No
    3. 06% - Abstained
  3. Do you believe that the available newspapers and magazines describe the actual reality of Iraqi press?
    1. 23% - Yes
    2. 76% - No
    3. 01% - Abstained
  4. Are you in favor of imposing specific censorship on what is written, especially at present and under the current conditions in the country?
    1. 35% - Yes
    2. 51% - No
    3. 13% - Abstained

Comparing apples and oranges doesn't do much, but sometimes they're fun to look at side by side. I think question three from the Iraq survey most closely resembles the FR poll question.

Slightly unrelated. In polls, why do people "abstain"? Seems that if you are going to "vote," then why abstain?
