We got us a whole bunch of "compassionate conservatives" burning the midnight oil tonight, don't we?...;)

One or two dogs is a whole lot different than the entire population of a CITY and STATE.
Every shelter in every state is full. Most of them will end up euthanized. Have you ever tried putting a scared, unfamiliar dog into a helecopter with no doors? guess what happens when it bites the soldier and he lets go of it at a few hundred feet above the ground.

Every pet nut I'm ever met is just a pussie.

The more people I meet, the more I like my dog.

The animal rescue boats followed behind the 82nd airborne. Then they searched a house, they rescued the people and any animals were picked up by the privately funded rescue groups. Or the soldiers would make note of animals and radio the info back to animal rescue boats.

I have not heard that they are saving pets before trying to recover dead human bodies. As they grid search, they are aiding and rescuing whatever they can find in that godforsaken place.

I'll pay you $50 to say that to my husband's face.

Given the choice, would your husband save you or your children before he saved your pet?

That's what I meant by pet nut.

I've loved my pets and have cried over them when I burried them. But they're just not worth a human's life.

I'll take you bet, but you might have to wait 'til next month when I collect some more client's checks and my collarbone has fully fused.

Thank you for the link to the petition. And please ignore all of these defeatist naysayers. We Americans are quite capable of saving the people AND the animals. It's the humane and right thing to do.

Jefferson County is killing them, not New Orleans. Those pets have already been eaten.

Citing 3000 homes in OREGON is fatuous. What kind of resources need to be expended to get 3000 LETTERS to Oregon from Louisiana?

No it's not. The point is there is enough money, enough resources, enough homes, enough love to go around.

And part of my point was that if the pets had been allowed to be evacuated in the first place with the humans (and if hotels and shelters had allowed pets), then the HUMAN rescue effort NOW wouldn't be nearly as great, and the human losses wouldn't be as great. People chose not to evacuate because they loved their pets so much that they wouldn't leave them. As a result, the HUMAN rescue job was bigger than it needed to be, which cost more money than it needed to cost, and more people died than needed to die.

You think it doesn't take money to clean up all the dead animals that will be left in another week or two? If they could have been evacuated in the first place, we wouldn't have all the "dangers" and expenses we are going to have due to "packs of wild dogs" and "feral cats" and "rabies" (overblown myth) and rotting animals, etc.

"But it is not conjecture that some people died when they stayed behind due to their pets."

And all these years, I thought Darwin was wrong. Oh well, the gene pool needs a good purge every now and then.

Please note that the site presented by this person is 100% devoted to promoting left wing causes.

Someone with more knowledge may want to check out OP and make sure he is not a DU troll.

"Most of them will end up euthanized."

Piffle.

People all over the country are already calling shelters begging to adopt any pets who aren't claimed.

They love the idea of having a "disaster survivor" in the family.

I see it all the time locally.

Some stray dog or cat beats the odds and people nearly mob the SPCA trying to adopt it.

Try again.

And I would imagine that trained soldiers have sense enough to fashion temporary muzzles.

[who even mentioned soldiers rescuing them anyway? we're talking privately funded civilian animal rescuers here]

And they're ALL paying to do it out of their OWN pockets, risking their own lives and wasting their own time so what's it to you?

What it is to me is a diversion of resources and questionable agents operating in a disaster area.

"And it is not like it is being done at taxpayer expense.

Yea right. I've had to shoot my own dog before, wasn't pleasant, but it was better that letting it suffer. It's not a sporting even either. Nice dramatic touch though.

You bet. It's America and the private party has the right to do this. That does not mean they are not misguided, stupid, and wrong. Because the focus on saving pets when people are still in trouble is sickening to this proud American.

Even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then.

Lefties or not, what they're trying to do with *this* is a good thing.

[now quit trying to spook the herd]...;)

My father was as tough as they come and an avid hunter, but it bothered him a great deal to kill an animal raise to trust humans.

What makes you think it wouldn't bother any of us, too? If you're really farm-raised, you know the mindset.

Piffle?
Is that like Poppycock or something?

It's not piffle, it's the truth. But these farce groups like the money you send them, keep giving and loving. They'll keep tagging and bagging, sending their weekly load to the landfill
