73/3! Two quick wickets from McGrath after it looked like Vaughan might just be playing himself in for a proper Captain's knock.

You'd still fancy England, but its going to be a looog day.

I'm starting to look at the game with my hand over my eyes, peeking between my fingertips. You are so right, it's going to be a very long day.

Let me know if two scruffy looking guys on a sofa suddenly appear on a pitch. Or robots from an alien space ship.

Don't panic.

Thank GOD you put this in breaking news!
'Cause around here the only thing that sucks less than Soccer is Cricket.

Well, its happening now, so how is that not breaking?

I thought that there might be enough Aussie and Brit freepers to merit a thread.

For the uninitiated this is the last day of the last game in what might be the best cricket test series ever, this being the oldest sporting rivalry in the world.

It's cricket, so therefore, it's not news.

I'm the odd American who likes cricket (and all other sports, save soccer). Post away my friend.

A cricket thread in news? May Yobs infest your knickers, you gormless git. (That's the extent of my command of the British language.)

But since only British Freepers and Australian Freepers and Americans with sleeping disorders are awake, do you really think this thread will last much longer?

Keep posting! The Ashes are a tense battle to the finish!

How can that other poster not like football? (shakes head in disbelief). I grant you American Football isn't as dull as Basketball (which is like watching lane-swimming) but at the end of the day AF is still a bunch of big girls in body armour crashing into each other. Try Rugby!

Adding to my #10, to be fair, I have as much interest in most of the traditional American sports as I do cricket - especially football and basketball.

Spare a thought for us older guys with blood pressure problems. After the last three Tests, I can't take the tension any more - I'm off out on the bike for the next three hours, and by the time I'm back it'll probably be settled one way or the other - or not. Anyone who still thinks cricket is a dull game must have been on another planet for the last three months. I've been watching all kinds of sport for fifty years, and I tell you nothing in any sport has come anywhere near the sustained tension of this Ashes series.

England needs to bat out until Tea. I just don't see them lasting that long. Warne and McGrath are too good.

What Australia will do after those two retire is another question.

At least one of the streakers at the Oval was female.

188/6 now, Pieterson & Jones. My take; if Pieterson (on 78) gets his century then the ashes are England's.

Well, here I am back from my bike ride. Didn't dare to switch on the radio for 20 minutes - and then discovered I'd missed all the fun. England have won the Ashes. Thought I'd never be able to say that again in my lifetime. What a wonderful day! 17 years of humiliation swept away in three months of unrepeatable tension and exhilaration.
