Dear John Letter #1,374:

While digesting your description of the disaster Katrina was and is, and the disaster the liberals (always) are, I felt a tap on my shoulder!!

T'was made by a greatly respected persona from Days Gone By, John, with a message for you and The Finest.

I thus shall defer, and now turn the platform over to this fellow to relate his thoughts on this utterly revoltin' development.

"Hey there, Johnny boy - - know how you feel, all riled up by the scene down there...ignoramuses spoutin' right and left ('specially from the left!).
I happen to know a lot about the affected area, spendin' considerable time up and down the Mighty Mississippi, and even wrote a book about it -

Reminds me of when they were spewin' all over that I was dead -
I tell you, that rocked me, and I had to do a reality check...concluded "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

Well, son, that's *almost* what I said; a little altered by liberals of my day - - here's the God's truth of the whole matter, the way I scrawled it:

You know I always had a few things to say (chuckle, chuckle), and this fellow

and I agreed about this:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
- Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar"

=============================================

"Well, son, guess you agree things haven't changed a bit, and I say it's up to you to carry on with cogent mutterings..:))"

"Turnin' you back over to LadyX, with one more thought: "That's just my 2 cents, JH2..:))"

=============================================

Wow, Dear John - - you brought words from A True Master of them!
Yep, the Dem Dogs still are loaded with fleas, and still scratch us to death dealin' with 'em....

Some more of Samuel Clemens, writing under the screen pen name of Mark Twain - -

DAYDREAMS

The castle-building habit, the day-dreaming habit--how it grows! what a luxury it becomes; how we fly to its enchantments at every idle moment, how we revel in them, steep our souls in them, intoxicate ourselves with their beguiling fantasies--oh, yes, and how soon and how easily our dream-life and our material life become so intermingled and so fused together that we can't quite tell which is which, anymore.

"Hello again, LadyX!"
"Whaddya think of these old photographs of me -
is my right side better, or the left?"

"Bet you say the right..:))"

Here are some of my musings on the topic of CHILDREN - -

=========================================

The proverb says that Providence protects children and idiots. This is really true. I know because I have tested it.
- Autobiography of Mark Twain

The darling mispronunciations of childhood!--dear me, there's no music that can touch it; and how one grieves when it wastes away and dissolves into correctness, knowing it will never visit his bereaved ear again.
- A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court

...this curious & pathetic fact of life: that when parents are old & their children grown up, the grown-up children are not the persons they formerly were; that their former selves have wandered away, never to return again, save in dream-glimpses of their young forms that tarry a moment & gladden the eye, then vanish & break the heart.

- "Memorial to Olivia Susan Clemens"

Hi, Miss Dolly!
Realize everyone is engrossed with work or glued to television reports on the Roberts Hearings and two hurricanes and the aftermaths - - just leaving a few things for when they are able to amble in..:))

The highlight of our weeks are when we can feast upon John's wonderful satirical writings!

The screened porch has a layer of dirt deep enough to grow weeds - well, almost..:) - and I've shifted it to the bottom of the priority List too often....

Also need to "share."

BLUSH!!!!

King, this one HAS to be your best essay....imo. Excellent!

I agree. A classic!!!! (John had formatting problems this time which is the reason for lack of graphics...BUT...think is almost better because it didn't distract from your words...PLUS...had originally used a few pictures of a bloated Kennedy. I think my 'puter deliberately rejected it LOL!!!!!!

Hugs to you both!

Hi there ms d.. quite day here.. I haven't been on line much at all today. Lots going on here & there & getting a few graphic programs punched out. Thought I would get my niece's intro here but she hasn't written up her profile yet to include in a table for her page that I did. Want people to be able to "meet her" w/o having to post it all on thread.

My grief support group went well last evening & I have had good feed back from it Next week starts the weight loss support group. Niece (new FReeper) is my assistant.

Rus, the corruption sounds terrible there. Is it even safe to be a politician there?

Hi, guys - sorry to be so late getting here - this time I read the essay in my mail, John! They are such crybabies. Shame they can't grow up and act like adults.

President's on now, addressing the nation - going to go listen. Thank you both for these great reads every Thursday! (I love those whiney graphics, dutchess!)

This one should keep us all thinking.

This is a true story of something that happened just a few years ago at USC.
There was a professor of philosophy there who was a deeply committed atheist.
His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester to prove that God couldn't exist.

His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic. For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him.

Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation.

At the end of every semester on the las t day, he would say to his class of 300 students,

"If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!"

In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool".

If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do it."

And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces.

All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare.

Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor. He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought.

Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped .

Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom.

The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!! If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!"

He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall.

The young man who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus
for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of His power through Jesus.
