Pope bans homosexuals from ordination as priests

Pope Benedict XVI has given his approval to a new Vatican policy document indicating that men with homosexual tendencies should not be ordained as Catholic priests, reports Catholic World News.

The policy statement is a direct result of the pope's concern about the pedophilia scandal in the church – especially in the U.S.

The new document, prepared by the Congregation for Catholic Education in response to a request made by the late Pope John Paul II in 1994, will be published soon. It will take the form of an "Instruction," signed by the prefect and secretary of the congregation: Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski and Archbishop Michael Miller, according to the report.

The report was first referenced on Joseph Farah's nationally syndicated radio program last week by Raymond Arroyo, author of the new book "Mother Angelica: The Remarkable Story of a Nun, Her Nerve and a Network of Miracles." Arroyo has covered the papacy more than any other journalist

The text, approved by Benedict at the end of August, says that homosexual men should not be admitted to seminaries even if they are celibate, because their condition suggests a serious personality disorder that detracts from their ability to serve as ministers, says the CWN report.

Priests who have already been ordained, if they suffer from homosexual impulses, are strongly urged to renew their dedication to chastity and a manner of life appropriate to the priesthood.

The "Instruction" does not represent a change in church teaching or policy, according to the Vatican.

Catholic leaders have consistently taught that homosexual men should not be ordained to the priesthood. Pope John XXIII approved a formal policy to that effect, which still remains in effect. However, during the 1970s and 1980s, that policy was widely ignored, particularly in North America.

The Congregation for Catholic Education prepared the "Instruction" after soliciting advice from all of the world's bishops, from psychologists and from moral theologians. A draft was then circulated among the Vatican dicasteries concerned with the issue, notably including the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The pending release of the "Instruction," in the face of certain criticism from liberal forces in America and Western Europe, demonstrates the determination of the Vatican to improve the quality of priestly ministry and to protect the church from some of the scandals that have recently shaken the Catholic community – and no doubt deterred many men from entering priestly training.

Informed sources in Rome indicate that the "Instruction" probably will be made public after the Synod of Bishops, which meets in Rome Oct. 2 through 23.

The significance is to get rid of the faggies. All of them. Right now.

You don't take a heterosexual with a vow of celibacy and ask him to room with the nuns. So even if you see these orientations as equal (they are not) and should have equal treatment (they should not), you still have to realize that you are placing these vow takers in a very difficult situation.

If all things are equal, as you seem to think, then someone attracted to children is also equally qualified. Would you agree with that?

You'll still have to lock up your girls, AND keep an eye on your sisters, wives, and mothers.

No, I remember both of those. The first was a Presbyterian preacher in the Dallas area, the second was a Methodist in Fort Worth.

Ok, that makes sense. It's logical to assume that an environment tailor made to minimize heterosexual temptation wouldn't necessarily have the same effect if homosexuals were thrust into the mix. I was naively thinking of priests as these celibate guys who lived alone away from sexual temptation of any type.

"Ok, I'll admit it, I don't get it. As long as the vow of celibacy is adhered to, who cares what a priests sexual orientation is? I mean let's cut to the chase here: Priests are expected to give up sexuality en toto, so what's the significance here?"

The significance is this: Placing men who tend toward other men as their sexual objects--placed in a situation like a seminary or a rectory--are being put into situations that provide an unbearable amount of temptation for THEM, and if they are subsequently ordained with those tendencies still intact, they are then put into a position where they will be distracted from their duties by their temptations (for one thing) and provided with a situation of further temptation and danger regarding the teenaged boys in any parish where they might be placed.

Putting homosexual priests into pencil-pushing jobs in the Chancery offices might be a partial solution and remove them from the temptation of parish/school life, but then the the problem becomes one of having ordained priests in jobs where they don't need priestly faculties. Why bother? Ordaining men with homosexual tendencies is a self-defeating practice. Amchurch's chickens are now coming home to roost. Their Great Experiment has failed miserably.

Seriously that statement is factually correct however given that homosexuals constitute less than 3% of the population yet make up more than 30% of known pedophiles leaves one to wander if there isn't a gay agenda here.

http://traditionalvalues.org/urban/one.php

There is a lot of info on the net about this. You may doubt the source however the statistics cannot be manipulated so easily as the gay community would like. You may draw your own conclusions but the evidence is quite irrefutable it's just that it doesn't fit well with the liberal msm and it's gay constituency it dearly wants to placate. (Why? I have no clue!)

Will liberals dare to call the Pope a homophobe? Probably.

It really is apples (pedophilia) and oranges (homosexuality). One is illegal and immoral, the other is just illegal (in most countries).

OH Yeah: Well I'm not Catholic, but they claim to worship the same God, and use the same book as me so I'm sure that It does matter both to them and me: Romans 1:26-27 God gave them over to -shameful lusts-... The Bible clearly teaches that gay is a sin, and therefore its insane to allow a homosexual to become ordained, they are not saved unless they have repented of their sins no matter how much "work" they do for the church (of course a non-repentant hetero refusing to surrendering to Christ wouldn't be either). Which means surrendering to Christ as Lord and savior to be saved (John 14:6) and I do believe that someone who has been saved can struggle with that sin though, but the difference between them and a non-repentent gay is that they reject their sin, and the gay does not, but the good news is that everyone could be saved if they choose to allow God to!

There is a book about homosexuality coming out that includes a chapter on the positive benefits of pederasty. If that is not an admission by homosexuals that attraction to young boys is part and parcel of their culture, I don't know what is.

New book promotes sex with children

Kudos to the Pope.
