>>>Police losing battle over pot, says prof

That's because it's a stupid battle.

Thinking the ship sailed on Pot smoking when the Indians were smoking it, and hasn't come back to port since.

I'd rather legalize pot (with the same restrictions as alcohol) and focus on the stronger stuff. It's not that I smoke it, or want anyone to smoke it, but rather I favor falling back to defensible lines.

Well, if the police are losing the battle over pot, and the solution would be to legalize it, why not legalize crime? After all, isn't that a losing battle? Civilized societies have been fighting crime since man was created.......and we still have crime.

It is not a question of practicality. It is a question of what is right and what is wrong.

What a doofus.

The claim:

Police are losing the war against pot

The evidence:

Police say the number and size of local marijuana operations they’re discovering is increasing.

Isn't this a lot like "Prison population rises, even while crime rate declines"?

At least decriminalize pot now. Sheesh, the money and manpower wasted on marijuana busts.... Use the dough and resources to catch pedophiles instead.

And I don't buy the "gateway drug" nonsense either. Nicotine and caffeine can be considered gateway drugs. So could chocolate.

The gov't has no business telling me or anyone else what drugs we can and cannot take.

Trust me on this - it is far and away Canada's largest cash crop business. Ontario has a bunch for sure but the real business is happening in BC. In most cases, to be specific these are run by the Vietnamese. In the interior of BC in some of the old mining towns, every other building now houses a grow operation. Two weeks ago I was in Canmore and as luck would have it, I ended up in the hot tub of the hotel with a young recruit with the RCMP. I knew there was a lot of drugs in BC but when he told me the scope, it blew my mind.

Why should they give up? It is the best way they can expand their powers and little kingdoms and steal your rights that they have ever come up with!

You know I was a drug user and a alcoholic for almost twenty five years and all that i can say that drugs abuse in general including smoking weed is not good for anybody's mental or physical well being.

The crap caused me no end of misery in the end.

I am almost fifty years old and i have been on the wagon for almost ten years.

I went to a liver specialist after the man told me if i did not quit using i would have liver problems.

Smoking weed is not harmless because if you smoke enough of that crap you will have bats in your belfry and it will have you thinking and acting out perverted things.

A person like that would really need god in their lives and they should beg for god's wisdom and providence.

There is nothing good that comes from drug abuse.

TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

"Police are losing the war against pot and it’s time to make it legal and regulate the cultivation and use of it, says Eugene Oscapella, an Ottawa University criminology teacher who co-founded the Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy" The "expert" said

Well, Police are still fighting against child porn and they don't seem to be winning. I guess using this guys logic we should legalize child porn? While at it, why not pedophilia; lets legalize that too? We don’t seem to be winning that battle either.

Liberals:

Legalize drugs, but not my son.

Legalize prostitution, but not my daughter.

Anti death penalty, exception is if my wife gets raped and murdered (A situation they never like to answer and avoid when confronted with).

All for free speech, except if it’s Rush, Dr Laura……….

All for democracy, except if it’s Gore, Schroeder……….

You see a trend?

So, let me see if I get this right. The “expert” stated that since we can’t win we should give up, and of course have the STATE regulate it. Gee, what a surprise.

These dope threads always start out like this, a few conservative Freepers chime in about the harms of the weed, then before long the libertarians take over and harass the conservatives with endless questions that get annoying really fast.

Incidentally the one that posted this story is one of the L's.

"Owen Sound Police Chief Tom Kaye said the reason police don’t have the upper hand on drug-growers is because of lenient court sentences.

--

“Down in the United States, the average sentencing down there for a grow op of much less is seven years in the penitentiary. So who’s got the bigger problem with grow ops? We do."

The reason Canada has a bigger problem with indoor grow ops than the U.S. is because they don't have Mexico right below them supplying them with many thousands of tons per year of cheap pot, that and Canada's colder temperatures and shorter growing seasons make it far less than ideal for outdoor marijuana growing as the U.S. where several more thousands of tons of marijuana are grown outdoors every year. Besides, large scale indoor grow ops aren't particularly practical in the south where air conditioners have a hard enough time cooling a normal house when the outside temp is over a hundred or in the high nineties. Add a bunch of hot lamp ballasts and several thousand watts of high intensity discharge lamps and it would cost a fortune to keep these places cool enough to grow the indoor indica that likes temperatures in the mid seventies.

Mexicans control most of the bulk wholesale marijuana markets in this country. Why would they want to get involved in a labor intensive process with high start up costs and high ongoing costs when they can just have their buddies in Mexico send them huge loads of dirt cheap product they can move fast for less cash but still make obscene profits? The Vietnamese gangs in Canada would probably be doing the same thing if they could get the same pot for the same prices, but they don't have the connections and even if they did it would be cost prohibitive to smuggle tons and tons of Mexican pot all the way to Canada. If we ever do get control of our southern border and stop most of the thousands of tons of pot that are coming up here though you can bet that we'll see a huge jump in the number of indoor and outdoor growing operations in this country. As long as there is demand and money to be made supplying that demand, the demand is going to be met.

.... " says Eugene Oscapella, an Ottawa University criminology teacher who co-founded the Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy. " ... uh huh.

Needs a better title ... like "Pothead Prof wants his illicit habit legalized" .... this man is not some unbiased source but a crusader against drug laws and is also in Canada's version of the ACLU. "Eugene Oscapella sits as a volunteer on several boards dealing with legal and social policy issues. He is a founding member of the Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy, the Canadian board member of the International Foundation for Drug Policy and Human Rights, and a member of the policy committee of the Canadian Criminal Justice Association. He also belongs to the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Drug Policy Foundation (Washington)."

So the biased article makes it sound like some informed Professor has reached some conlcusion based on evidence. NO. An advocate is doing his preaching from a professorship. No real news here.

The news is he hates America. This meathead calls the US a violator of international law .. why? "The affidavit documents the extensive evidence of abuse of women in US prisons, in violation of international law."

That was touted as Canada’s biggest ever marijuana grow operation, with 30,000 plants which police said would be worth $30 million on the street.

A million dollars a plant?

These threads all follow the same progression. The pot people say pot is harmless. They lose that argument, and then they say pot is no worse than alcohol. They lose again and then say it's medicine. They lose again and then claim its a constitutional right. They lose that one and then start another pot thread the next day and do the same thing all over again. Oh, and be sure to use the phrases "war on drugs" and "drug warrior" as often as possible even though no policy maker has used them for fifteen years.

The only reason people drink is to get a buzz. Pot is the same thing. I've never met anybody who didn't smoke weed. Pot is much safer for women to use and party with. If you have a daughter, anybody with any common sense would want her to party with weed instead of getting drunk. Many rapists love women to party with alcohol. Date rapists can't use their date rape drugs if women don't have a drink to slip them into LOL. Also most pot smokers are happy, mellow instead of violent, out of control and aggressive like those that party with alcohol. Pot just makes you laugh and mellow out. I've never passed out cold or had blackouts from smoking bud. I remember when I went to a party and drank I can't remember how I got from point a to point b. This asian girl I used to hang with said I almost fell down the stairs and cracked my skull open. She said I wandered into the hallway and any drunk male could've found me, carried me someplace else and gang raped me in any of the apartments.

Smoking weed you have full awareness and people won't be able to take advantage. If the crowd your hangin with also is smoking instead of drinking, it's a much safer environment. They're less likely to flip out and act crazy or stupid. People drinking alcohol are always acting stupid and starting fights.

My friend also would regularly drive while drinking and coming home from parties. I can't remember how many times he smashed his car or went into a ditch because he didn't believe he was drunk and he always blacked out. When he was driving while under the influence of weed he never got into any accidents because he didn't black out.

I think driving impaired is pretty crazy and stupid.
