Hurricane Roberts heads for the bench; Democrats still 90% under water
by JohnHuang2
"President Bush's supporters want him to replace retiring Sandra Day O'Connor with a rock-solid conservative jurist," the AP notes with amazing insight, "but Bush's low poll numbers (in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina) have given liberals hope he'll nominate a moderate to avoid a raucous fight in the Senate." Oh, puleeze. Don't tell me you don't trust media polls. Recall those fabulous exit polls last November. And the "electable" horseface.
The geniuses in the press predicted in July that Bush would most certainly nominate a "moderate" woman like Edith Clement to replace retiring O'Connor. Bush nominates a conservative white guy.
Their stellar track record intact, now they say Bush will most certainly nominate a "moderate" to replace retiring O'Connor because New Orleans had a hurricane. Bush is president, everyone knows presidents can stop hurricanes by hitting that big red "OFF" button on their nifty wireless SONY remote, but Bush didn't, so he's in "trouble" politically, which means he's gotta "reach out" to the "center" and pick a "consensus candidate," preferably a "moderate" minority "consensus candidate" because of questions raised by Bush's racist hurricane, Katrina. (Katrina is now being overshadowed by Rita, which Rove created to divert attention from Katrina, which Rove created to divert attention from Cindy Sheehan, the Downing Street Memos and Jeff Gannon!)
With the death of Rehnquist and O'Connor's retirement, you've got three vacancies on the High Court. The third vacancy is called David Souter. Republicans won the elections across the board last November, so naturally Harry Reid thinks Harry Reid gets to pick judges. According to Robert Novak's Senate sources, Reid "has informed Majority Leader Bill Frist that Federal Appeals Court Judge Priscilla Owen will be filibustered if President Bush names her to replace Justice" O'Connor. Judge Owen can't find a constitutional right to crack cocaine, gay marriage, kiddie-porn, racial quotas, cloning, or the right to drill a hole in your baby's skull to suck his brains out, which makes her an "ideologue." In other words, when liberals say "ideologue," what they mean is someone way out on the fringe -- like Madison, Franklin, Hamilton, Washington, Jefferson, all rumored involved in the creation of a nation of right-wing fundamentalists with guns.
As things stand, unless Reuters publishes a photo of a Smoking Gun note proving Roberts has bodily functions, it's a given that Democrats don't have the votes and Judge Roberts will be confirmed.
During a full week of hearings, Kennedy grilled the nominee on moral issues and integrity, Biden's hair plugs kept falling out in frustration, Chuck Schumer kept getting his forked-tongue tied, Dick Durbin kept demanding release of Roberts's internal memos (those memos will link Roberts to the Nazis!), and Dianne Feinstein kept complaining about Roberts's wealthy and privileged background, Dems never laid a glove on him. Kennedy looked like a fool, even though he thoroughly prepared with the help of one of his most trusted aides, Jack Daniels. Biden's opening speech nearly stretched into Bush's third term.
By the end of the hearings, Roberts was a walking Encyclopedia Britannica, Democrats were the walking dead. With his Roberts pick, Bush has put the D'Rats right on the horns of a dilemma. If they vote 'no' on Roberts, and use up their ammo against a top-notch nominee who's bullet-proof, they won't have any left for the next one who could tip the balance of the court toward we knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who wanna turn the clock back to the dark days when judges actually obeyed the law.
But Democrats can't afford to alienate their crazed DU/DailyKos/MoveOn base by voting 'yes' on Roberts. Then, complicating things even more, you've got the Red State Dems, struggling to survive, who can't afford to alienate Bush voters in their state by voting 'no' on Roberts. And, with Roberts unstoppable, the media keep rolling out 'BUSH IS FINISHED! 158% DISAPPROVE!' polls, packed with Democrats, in order to convince liberals of how "great" they're doing and scare Bush into nominating a "moderate." Not gonna happen. The next nominee will give libbies a heart attack.
Anyway, that's...
My two cents

Late this morning with post..what a story I could tell... but only a select few would commiserate (so you might get an email later today).. hope all Finest friends are doing well this AM. Lovely day in NE Ohio.. warm and sunny. First day of Fall is like a toasty summer day.
Prayers for all on the path of Rita
Thanks to the moderator the full title (date Billie?) is up. for some reason I kept getting the prompt when I was attempting to post the thread that 4-100 characters etc. I dropped the initial part of title & it "took". the kind, overworked, underpaid(?) moderator corrected it.
Catch you all later. enjoy John's great work & the toons are compliments of Pookie and his daily toon thread.

Very nice! Now look at it this way. If bush's numbers are low, can he risk losing some of his base with a moderate pick?

Below is Zac's Mom work of art and history ripping Teddy Kennedy: The Lion of the Democrat Party?
Killer Kennedy and the Klu Klux Klanner Dirty Byrd are the core of the lunatic left. They have no soul.

Dear John, this is "another* one of your Best of The Best.
Pleading the "My hands are screaming from yesterday's work Excuse,"

Outstanding!
My favorite........With the death of Rehnquist and O'Connor's retirement, you've got three vacancies on the High Court. The third vacancy is called David Souter.
It would be even funnier if it weren't true!

Zacs Mom is really talented.
What scares me is how much I agree with her on target humor.
