Defenders of Iraq war counter-rally Smaller-than-expected gathering follows anti-war protest Sunday, September 25, 2005; Posted: 6:17 p.m. EDT (22:17 GMT) story.rally.ap.jpg Supporters and detractors of the war in Iraq line opposite sides of a Washington street Sunday. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Support for U.S. troops fighting abroad mixed with anger toward anti-war demonstrators at home as hundreds of people, far fewer than organizers had expected, rallied Sunday on the National Mall just a day after tens of thousands protested against the war in Iraq. "No matter what your ideals are, our sons and daughters are fighting for our freedom," said Marilyn Faatz, who drove from New Jersey to attend the rally. "We are making a mockery out of this. And we need to stand united, but we are not."

Don't let the mass media convince us that dumb numbers are the only thing that matters. The freerepublic production was probably the best thing I've seen on public affairs. It should be a prototype of intelligent public discourse -- and not that crap they like to offer us as the best in the world, or all they can offer. Maybe they show those lowlifes so they can look like geniuses by comparison.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Winning Troops
We need to, and soon. I saw thousands of moonbats yesterday, and only "hundreds" of friendly faces today.
Today was when we had C-SPAN, today we lots of reporters and cameras, today was when the Presidents' helicopter flew over. How cool it would have been for George W. to look out the window and see thousands below on the mall supporting our troops?
Still, it's important for our soldiers to know about everyone who was there to support their mission, everyone who spoke, everyone who made a special trip to come to be a part of the rally. Some came a few miles, some came many. I've met so many great people, from California, Georgia, and Oklahoma, New Jersey. All said they just had to come, but not all of these were FReepers, most were moms of service members and young Republicans. Gave us hope!
Saw them on c-SPAN. Couldn't have been more than 150.
Good post. Sad but true observations
I was at quite a few of the Glenn Beck Rallies.. In fact the Valley Forge rally is how I found FR! Needed info and I think it was a dogpile search that took me to FR. I lurked for 22 seconds, joined & posted! Took hundreds of pictures. Rode both ways alone from Cleveland (well, Oliver the pooch accompanied me) same day.
Two friends and I went to the Glenn Beck rally in Valley Forge and stood in line with hundreds and hundreds of people waiting for busses to take us from the parking lot up to the rally site. As we stood waiting we had our own rally--it was a glorious crowd--and suddenly the crowd started to disperse. The organizers greatly underestimated the crowd and the busses were unable to get everyone to the rally in time and stopped running. But the spirit was there and the crowd was totally unlike the weirdos in D.C. yesterday--families with young children, babies, aged WW II veterans and Viet Nam veterans. It was an honor to be there with all of them.
I heard about the rally y'all had down there waiting in line.
I parked about a mile from the Freedom Valley Center and walked down.
What a great day it was.
tens of thousands ???? Is that correct?
MO, I got there so early(7 AM? - i am recalling) I was parked right in the lot next door to the park area...met some great people there who tailgated AFTER the rally. Oliver did well, but as a vegetraian, I just shared a few chips & a brewski. The front of the area which sloped down to the stage was a mudhole. By the time the rally started I was covered with mud (from Oliver) & being a klutz..well mostly being a klutz, but having the dog alone does give me someone else to blame) but I had great positioning for pix of the stage & the crowds.
I may have some pix of you.. like I say, I took hundreds. What were you wearing? were you alone? etc. Lots/most were dressed patriotically.
Bad idea. It's being as manipulative as the left. And it doesnt matter WHO we get to have our message told, as long as that message is conservative, the media isnt going to flock to it. There are many mothers who lost their sons in Iraq already, but still support Bush and the war on terror. How often is the media flocking to them now?
And we already got some high profile people carrying out our messages to the media, or at least trying to. What do we need with a carbon copy of a phony figurehead like sheehan?
Well I see CNN came through for the Marxist anti Americans again.
Just got your post...
Still, the fact is--- a lot of the dems protestors are PAID to protest...they are shipped from one place to another.
So, unless the pro-troops people want protest whores to so the same, we will always have a smaller turnout.
Remember all of the Deaniacs that supposedly went from house to house getting people to fill out election applications??? They weren't "volunteers" doing it in their communities to get the right person elected FOR their communities..
They were paid and didn't care if there was any "follow-thru"...they just wanted "numbers".
I dare say...that the people at the anti-war rally had the numbers...but no follow thru, because they are protesting the same things they have been protesting for YEARS...and our side has gotten STRONGER...
Baseballmom was the one who corresponded with me my first posts at FR!!! I hoped to find her & a few others, but as you know there were 15,000+ there & no nametags etc. Well, I had a name tag on (covered with mud)
I just want to take away the numbers game from the left.
Yes. Always!
BTW, on my name, it is something I always describe myself as. So, I registered with it.
Everyone on the right side has been mostly following the *kids glove* approach. The shiites fear of a civil war backlash, and therefore are walking this one gingerly.
I bet, after the constitution vote and the general election in December, there will be a more brutal treatment of the terrorist thugs. Well, at least, I hope.
