China Marks 56 Years of Communist Rule

BEIJING — Tens of thousands of Chinese marked the 56th anniversary of Communist rule in Beijing's Tiananmen Square on Saturday with the country enjoying the benefits of two decades of rapid economic growth but still facing deep-seated social problems.

The crowds in the square enthusiastically waved Chinese flags and posed for pictures as security forces looked on placidly.

Security was tight in the capital Beijing at the start of the weeklong holiday. Police bomb squads were out in force, and human rights groups said authorities have been expelling people with grievances from the capital to prevent disruptions, a common move during politically sensitive periods.

On Friday, Premier Wen Jiabao vowed to press forward with rapid economic development but did not mention democratic reforms or any changes to one-party rule, touting the supremacy of the Communist Party. He only alluded to the social problems facing the country.

"China has undergone earthshaking changes and achieved world-stunning successes," Wen said at a reception for more than 1,500 foreign and Chinese guests at the Great Hall of the People in the heart of Beijing.

Obviously the Chinese value business success over human rights.

Sounds like 36 years of Communist rule and twenty years of capitalism.

Communist rule in China is in late middle age. Remember the Soviet Union lasted 73 years before it collapsed.

China is a CINO (communist in name only) state. It may not be democratic but it has abandoned communist economy many years ago.

China's government is more Nationalist than Communist now. Which is historically even more aggressive.

But the US policy towards China is currenty a polar opposite to what it was towards the Soviets.

The crowd would have been larger, but some one hundred million Chinese were unable to attend due to the fact that the commies murdered them.

Look at the air pollution in that picture. Breathe deeply, my friends, breathe deeply.

Modern China is an extreme Nationalist state. Religions, especially those from the West, are constantly persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as they are seen as in conflict with complete commitment to the country itself.

Staggering, isn't it. Good to see there is a natural reaction to their putting business above human rights.

I was in Tianamen Square last night, and saw nothing like this happening that they described, in fact, once they found out I was an American, they thronged around me and peppered me with questions about America, taking turns posing with me for pictures right in front of Mao's picture.

I received nothing but respect and enthusiasm and positive statements about the USA from the Chinese people, from the older to the younger college age types
