"Next Up in the Netherlands: Euthanasia for Babies"
By Eva Cahen
CNSNews.com Correspondent
October 05, 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Paris (CNSNews.com) - Four years after becoming the first nation formally to legalize euthanasia, the Netherlands is set to amend its legislation to provide for the euthanasia of newborn babies, under certain circumstances.

In 2001, the Dutch government passed a law allowing doctors to end the life of adult patients at their own request.

The new directive, which will be debated in parliament later this month and most likely approved without a vote, will extend the regulations to incorporate what is known as the Groningen Protocol."

Sometimes, you see a headline and just have to stop to cry. That one got me.

I debated whether to post it at all - the topic being what it was, but you know the fact that 14 men from South of the Border who are not citizens of this country raped and terrified an American girl was worth the telling. I don't for the life of me understand how things got this bad in the land we love. I thought about our courts giving illegals an American's land a couple of months ago and shudder to think where we are headed if things continue as they have in recent years and months.

"OU student faces Aug. 31 hearing on federal charges"

"Dreyling still enrolled, has commercial pilot's license"
The Norman Transcript

By Melissa A. Wabnitz

Transcript Staff Writer

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A University of Oklahoma student accused of transporting an explosive device into Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City last week is still enrolled and could begin classes at the Norman campus next Monday.

OU public affairs vice president Catherine Bishop confirmed Tuesday aviation senior Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. is still a student. Dreyling is one semester away from completing an aviation management degree, according to his lawyer Kent Eldridge.

Bishop would not comment on whether the university was instituting its own disciplinary proceedings against Dreyling, as outlined in the OU student code handbook.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security documents obtained by The Transcript detail on Aug. 11, federal agents searched Dreyling's Norman residence. In the residence, the memo states, agents found "gunpowder, carbon dioxide cartridges and wires" as well as a computer with a video of detonation of a device similar to the one transported into the airport Aug. 10."

"Ex-Oklahoma U. Student Could Be Responsible for Attacks"

By Ryan Chittum
Oklahoma Daily

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(U-WIRE) NORMAN, Okla. — Federal authorities investigating last week’s terrorist attacks are looking into a former University of Oklahoma student detained by immigration officials in Norman, Okla., Sept. 11.

Hussein Al-Attas has been transferred to a facility in New York, and the FBI is investigating his connection to another man detained in Minnesota.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service detained Al-Attas the day of the attacks, but he may have had a previous run-in with the INS on a trip to Minnesota this summer, said Mitchell Gray, a Norman attorney who practices immigration law.

The FBI is investigating Al-Attas because he may have driven Zacarias Moussaoui to Minnesota this summer. The INS detained Moussaoui Aug. 17 after his flight instructor became suspicious of his requests for training on jet simulators.

French intelligence officials tell the FBI that Moussaoui is a high-ranking operative in Osama bin Laden’s terrorist organization, according to published reports.

Moussaoui trained at Airman Flight School from February to May 29 and left without warning and without getting his pilot’s license, said Dale Davis, the school’s director of operations.

Al-Attas never contacted Airman, Gray said.

A person close to Al-Attas called Gray on Sunday to ask for help, saying Al-Attas had driven a man to Minnesota, the attorney said.

Al-Attas let Moussaoui live with him at one point, according to a member of the Islamic Society of Norman. Al-Attas often prays at the mosque and teaches classes on good character at an Islamic school, the member said.

Al-Attas was held in the Garvin County Jail in Pauls Valley, Okla., where the INS has a jail contract, until early this week when he was moved to Oklahoma City for transfer to New York.

A court record lists Al-Attas as a co-defendant with Muzahr Abduliqaadir in an action brought by Oklahoma Investment Group, the owners of Summer Pointe apartments.

A Summer Pointe maintenance man, who wished to be identified only as Jerry, said the tenants broke their lease and left without warning on Sept. 10."

Insurgents' video shows
beheading of two Iraqis

By Simon Johnson

DUBAI (Reuters) - An Iraqi insurgent group posted a video on the
Internet on Wednesday showing the apparent beheading of two Iraqis
it said had spied for the U.S. military.

The tape issued by the Army of Ansar al-Sunna, a major insurgent
group in Iraq, showed the men admitting they had gathered
information for U.S. forces.

They were later shown being beheaded by insurgents.

The video, which was dated Sept. 12, 2005, was the first to show a
beheading since January. Many such tapes were released by
insurgents in 2004.

The video showed both men being questioned by insurgents off
camera about the way in which they found and gave information to
U.S. forces.

"I work with American and Jewish spies against the mujahideen and
today I fell into the hands of the mujahideen," said Shaker Mahmoud
Jassem who was wearing a white robe.

"Everyone who works with the Americans and Jews should leave their
job. I advise everyone to join the jihad (holy war)," he said.

The second man, Riyadh Najm Abdalla, said he worked as a security
guard but was also a spy who had informed on Saudi insurgents in the
Baghdad area.

The two men, sitting against a backdrop of a red carpet on a wall,
seemed calm when answering the questions.

They were then taken outside and held down as their heads were
severed and placed on their bodies.

Militant groups have kidnapped scores of Iraqis they say worked for
U.S. forces, often beheading them. Militants have also targeted
Westerners and Arabs in Iraq in their campaign against U.S.-led forces
and U.S.-backed Iraqi government.

Last January, al Qaeda's arm in Iraq said it beheaded two Iraqis who
said they worked at a U.S. base in Iraq.

When I read that article to my husband, his comment was "why don't they just open the borders completely and let EVERYONE in?" I told him that seems to be exactly the plan. I am thankful my father and my father in law were spared seeing what is and has been happening to the wonderful country they loved so much. "The Origins of al Qaeda's Ideology:
Implications for U.S. Strategy"

"The fight against the enemy nearest to you
has precedence over the fight against the
enemy farther away. . . . In all Muslim
countries the enemy has the reins of power.
The enemy is the present rulers."
--Muhammad Abd al-Salam Faraj, tried and
hanged in connection with the 1981
assassination of Anwar al-Sadat1

"Victory for the Islamic movements . . . cannot
be attained unless these movements possess
an Islamic base in the heart of the Arab
region." --Ayman al-Zawahiri, Bin Laden
deputy, 20012

"We do not want stability in Iran, Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, and even Saudi Arabia. . . . The real
issue is not whether, but how to destabilize.
We have to ensure the fulfillment of the
democratic revolution." --Michael Ledeen,
American Enterprise Institute, 20023

The leader of Sadat's assassins, Bin Laden's chief
ideologue, and a leading American neoconservative
supporter of Israel all call for a revolutionary
transformation of the Middle East. However, the United
States, the existing Arab regimes, and the traditional Sunni
clerical establishments all share an interest in avoiding
instability and revolution. This shared interest makes the
establishments in the Sunni world America's natural
partners in the struggle against al Qaeda and similar
movements. If American strategists fail to understand and
exploit the divide between the establishments and the
revolutionaries within Sunni Islam, the United States will
play into the radicals' hands, and turn fence-sitting Sunnis
into enemies.

(clipped to the middle of article)*****

Mustafa, Zawahiri, and Bin Laden

After Sadat's assassination and the ensuing crackdown on
both the Muslim Brothers and the revolutionary Salafists in
Egypt, some Salafists gravitated to a sect headed by an
engineer named Shukri Mustafa. Mustafa's group, building
on Qutb's writings, preached the "denunciation as
unbelievers" (takfir) of almost all of society, and separation
from it. The traditional religious establishment of Al-Azhar
denounced these "takfiris" as heretics. Mustafa was
hanged in 1977 for the kidnapping and murder of a senior
Al-Azhar cleric.17

The guerilla war against the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989 was the incubator for the
contemporary stage in the development of revolutionary
Salafist doctrine and strategy. Many Arab volunteers in
Afghanistan coalesced around revolutionary Salafists who
remained outsiders to the Sunni clerical establishment,
even as some of the Arab regimes, and the United States,
funded them. Many Arabs in Afghanistan came under the
influence of the Egyptian physician Ayman al-Zawahiri, a
prolific writer whom many found persuasive, but who, like
all the revolutionary Salafists, was condemned by the
Al-Azhar clerical establishment.

Zawahiri claims to have known Faraj personally; the doctor
eventually became a leader of one of the Egyptian Jihad
groups.18 Zawahiri met Osama bin Laden in Peshawar,
Pakistan, during the guerilla campaign against the Soviets.
The two collaborated closely, Zawahiri contributing his skills
as an ideologist, Bin Laden his organizational talents and
financial resources. The two publicly announced the merger
of their groups in 1998, completing al Qaeda's
development into the group that challenges the United
States today.

Al Qaeda Strategy Today

Zawahiri remains Bin Laden's deputy as leader of al Qaeda,
and the Egyptian doctor's writings provide the best insight
into the terrorist organization's current strategic thinking.
In his 2001 book Knights Under the Prophet's Banner,
Zawahiri identifies and prioritizes the goals of what he calls
the "the revolutionary fundamentalist movement": first,
achievement of ideological coherence and organization,
then struggle against the existing regimes of the Muslim
world, followed by the establishment of a "genuinely"
Muslim state "at the heart of Arab world."19 Zawahiri
views the current stage of the jihad as one of worldwide,
revolutionary struggle, to be waged by means of violence,
political action, and propaganda against the secular Muslim
regimes and secularized Muslim elites.20 Zawahiri argues
that because the terrain in the key Arab countries is not
suitable for guerilla war, Islamists need to conduct political
action among the masses, combined with an urban
terrorist campaign against the secular regimes,
supplemented with attacks on "the external enemy"-i.e.,
the United States and Israel-as a means of propaganda
that will strengthen the jihad's popular support.

Zawahiri wants his Salafist readers to keep in mind that
the Arab establishments are the real targets, even if
"confining the battle to the domestic enemy . . . will not be
feasible in this stage of the battle."21 Highly visible attacks
against external enemies, and the inevitable retaliation,
Zawahiri explains, will rally ordinary Muslims to the radicals'
cause, strengthening the main struggle, the one against
the current regimes of the Muslim world. As Zawahiri writes
in Knights:

The jihad movement must . . . make room for the Muslim
nation to participate with it in the jihad for the sake of
empowerment. The Muslim nation will not participate with
[the jihad movement] unless the slogans of the mujahidin
are understood by the masses. . . . The one slogan that
has been well understood by the nation and to which it
has been responding for the past 50 years is the call for
jihad against Israel. In addition to this slogan, the [Muslim]
nation in [the 1990s] is geared against the US presence.
[The Muslim nation] has responded favorably to the call for
the jihad against the Americans. . . . [T]he jihad movement
moved to the center of the leadership of the [Muslim]
nation when it adopted the slogan of liberating the nation
from its external enemies. . . . [Striking at the United States
would force the Americans to] personally wage the battle
against the Muslims, which means that the battle will turn
into a clear-cut jihad against infidels.22

This passage shows that the revolutionary Salafists do not
expect to actually defeat America or its allies (whatever al
Qaeda propaganda may claim). Instead, spectacular
terrorist attacks are a means toward the end of changing
the character of the conflict, changing it from a campaign
waged by a small faction of extremists against the regimes
of Muslim world, into "a clear-cut jihad against infidels,"
which would, the Salafists hope, attract wide support
among the Muslim masses.23

Zawahiri views the current phase of the jihad as a
revolutionary war, and the ideological component of the
struggle is thus very important. Like Mao24 and the North
Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap,25 Zawahiri considers
political and propaganda action to be just as important at
some stages as military efforts are. "The jihad must
dedicate one of its wings to work with the masses, preach,
provide services. . . . [T]he people will not love us unless
they feel that we love them, care about them, and are
ready to defend them."26 This last point-convincing the
people that the revolutionary Salafists are "ready to
defend them"-again illustrates how Zawahiri sees
high-profile terrorist strikes against the external enemy as
a means of making propaganda for the Muslim masses. He
calls on his followers, at this stage of the struggle, to
"launch a battle for orienting the [Muslim] nation" by
striking at the United States and Israel.27 Thus, al Qaeda's
immediate goal is not to destroy Israel or even drive the
United States out of the Middle East; rather, it is to "orient
the nation."

Police files fiasco (Australia)
Tanya Giles, Kelly Ryan and Brendan Roberts
06oct05

SECRET files were used as scrap paper at a police station in
another damaging security bungle. The confidential files were
left on the counter of the Frankston station for the public to
use as notepaper, according to the man who exposed the
debacle.

The Herald Sun has learned the nine pages of LEAP data
included information on several Victorians, including the
address, phone numbers and movements of a 19-year-old
girl whose mobile phone had been stolen.

One document included details of an elderly man police
feared was suicidal and another was a description of a
suspect.

Rebecca Dale, 19, of Baxter, said she was shocked her
personal details had been exposed.

"It's scary. Some weirdo could have all my details. I gave the
police my address and my phone numbers and now anyone
could have them," Ms Dale said.

"You're supposed to be able to trust the police. They
obviously have no respect for my privacy."

Police said the documents were stolen from behind the
counter.

They have charged the man who took them with theft,
leading to Opposition claims they were covering up their
mistake.

The revelations come only weeks after the Herald Sun
revealed 20,000 pages of secret police files were mistakenly
released to a prison whistleblower.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Noel Ashby yesterday admitted
the sensitive files should not have been used as scrap paper.

Mr Ashby said the documents should have been shredded
and said a directive had been sent yesterday warning all
police to dispose of sensitive documents.

Their plan all along was "in the belly of the beast..."

If you are referring to the incident at OU (belly/center/OK)... I just don't see it.

I think Hinrich was working with local dudes who probably decided to bring their own personal Jihad to the infidels. If this is what al Qaida has been lowered to, we might as well declare victory now and have a party in the street. Sure, it could have been much worse than it ended up being... but, one bomber at one game? Even in a terribly defeated state, I would expect more than that from bin Laden, et al.

We won't have to gather information for days and days to have a slightly coherent picture of the next attack on America coordinated from the top.

Many claim, some on the TM included, that they think the operational capability has been severely hampered. I just don't see how anyone can come to that conclusion at this point. Sure, we are having major victories in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. That said, I do not personally believe that the people we are fighting in Iraq are the EXACT SAME individuals we would face here. Now, I'm not claiming they are not terrorists... they clearly are. I'm just not convinced they are the guys who would have been flying planes into our buildings. They are foot soldiers, on a mission to die. We don't send our scientists and thinkers to the front lines of battle, why would they?

The U.S. is much more protected than it was on 9/11, but we have a long way to go. There are many ways a major attack could be pulled off here. We are still target #1 on the list. This is becoming a game of patience, and the longer it goes... the more al Qaida gains the upper hand. I wish we weren't so used to instant results here, it makes me worry about people sounding the all clear too soon.
