WASHINGTON President Bush will hold a press conference on Tuesday in the Rose Garden at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
The issue that most likely will dominate the event is Bush's Monday pick of White House counsel Harriet Miers (search) for Supreme Court justice. If confirmed, Miers would take the place of retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (search).

First, I'd like to see that quote. Second, W has known this person for a decade and his dad certainly did not know Souter for a decade.
I sure as hell wish my fellow freepers would be consistent on the issues of judgment. How would we feel if Clinton had sent as a Supreme Court nominee:
Vince Foster (I know this would be a miracle)
Webb Hubbell
Lani Guiner
and all the rest of his crony attorney friends.
I know that Ms. Miers does not have the "issues" that are related to these esquires, but seriously, one of the first things we would say would be, CRONYISM. (hell, at least, if memory serves me correctly, Webb was on the Arkansas Supreme Court.)
"We are at war." Really? When was it declared? Why don't we have secure borders during a time of war?
I think our president is ready to spend about 9 months riding the range on his ranch by himself.... But he's got 3 more years to go....
Every person has a unique purpose in life. Every soul matters. No matter their station in life, no matter what their past has been.
It's what we do with the here and now which matters. Each and every single day.
I agree with you. Looks like we have plenty of visitors these days.
I don't put faith in any person. My faith is in a philosophy because, frankly, the conservative philosophy will never change because of the environment. So, go ahead and hitch your trailer to a person if you want.
If that makes me a "faux" Bush supporter, so be it. If you want follow someone other than God blindly, be my guest.
Conservatives aren't bitching about the war spending. They're bitching about the farm bill, the highway bill, the education bill, the Medicare prescriptions bill, and so on.
The giddy spending spree.
There is absolutly no way a liberal Democrat will want to allow a "strict constructionist" on the court.
Y'all ain't seen nothing yet!
I'll even throw in Savage who you can slice and dice. Do their opinions hold any weight with you whatsoever?
Not directed to me, but I will answer my views. No, Rush, Reagan, Medved, and for sure Savage do not speak for me. After listening to all of them yesterday, I was sick. They are going after President Bush because he did not pick a fight. He picked someone he knows, who he trusts, who shares his values. If this brings President Bush to the middle, than so be it. Talk show hosts do not know everything that is going on in the white house, not matter how close they think they are to this white house. To me, this whole 24 hours has shown that this white house does not go with public opinion, they go with what they know is best for our country, for our future regardless of the so called "in the knows's". WTG President Bush!!!
Peach, I agree with you 100% here. I'm not trying to be contrarian for the sake of it. I'm not saying you have to be a judge, but I am saying you MUST have some experience with matters of constitutional law, be it as a clerk, an advocate, or whatever. That's all. There are probably 100,000 minumum in this country more qualified to be a SC justice.
"Am I still a conservative? Proudly so." - Bush
He has NO friends in the press corps...
Your two cents is worth a heck of a lot more than some of the posts I have seen here in the last 24 hours..
Amazing rhetoric coming out of the woodwork these days, isn't it? Why if I didn't know better I'd think that some of these people were looking for an opportunity to attack.
CNN Goon: Valerie Plame-Plume whatever question.
