AUSTIN -- Dick DeGuerin, lawyer for indicted Rep. Tom DeLay on Tuesday subpoenaed the prosecuting Texas district attorney in an effort to show he acted improperly with grand jurors.
The subpoena for Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, filed in Austin, asked that the prosecutor and two of his assistants appear in court to explain their conduct.
The lawyers, previously had filed a motion asking for dismissal of the conspiracy and money-laundering charges against DeLay, the former House majority leader who has stepped aside from that post because of the indictment.
Dick DeGuerin, DeLay's attorney, also asked that grand jurors be released from their secrecy oath so they could answer questions about the prosecutor's conduct.
However, Tom Delay has more at stake for obvious reasons, than Earl does, since Earl is a nobody compared to Tom.
Typical Dem ploy.
No matter the outcome, Delay will lose for he has more to lose.
Media focus sure can be a ghostly demise.
Most Texas Democrats don't like what Earle is doing, either. Texas Dems seem to be markedy different than those outside the state. Not sure why.
Earle has his entire livelihood to lose (except maybe as a Dem political consultant or something) - if he loses, he gets tossed out of office, convicted of official misconduct (either felony or misdemeanor grade), and is automatically disbarred.
Delay is a man with a spine who isn't afraid to punch back. You don't pick on him and expect to get away with it unscathed. There are many others on our side who could learn a lesson or two about how to deal with the Democrats from "the hammer."
Secret Weapon: I have a jury summons for Travis County.
After previous endeavors of his, his age, and his present position, would you consider his motives to be self gratifying or externally motivated?
Personally, I see Earle being snided down the road, Delay blemished slightly via the MSM, and most of this ordeal coming to rest and forgotten.
Delay losing a bit and Earle not caring either way.
"Will Ronnie Earle's Political Son & Daughter Get Heat for Dad's act?"
US. Senator Mike Dewine's (OH) son was up for a political office recently and widely expected to win in a slam dunk. US Sen. Dewine opposed GWB on an important issue. Dewine's son lost. Yes, there are paybacks for chillun.
I'll second that.
He is also behind some new initiatives in Ohio that will give the dems too much power over elections in the state. Someone called Sean Hannity about it yesterday, but (as usual) she got the Hannity brush off)..
I know, wishful thinking.
Except those dems in Austin.
Judges don't like having their subpoenas ignored...
I really don't have a earle ping list, I just know those I pinged are Texans. I will include you from now on.
Funny thing on the news this morning, ronnie earle said it is time to have real campaign finance reform. He said most checks are $5,000 per donation and limiting that to $2,000 or so would do "wonders for politics".
I wonder if old ronnie remembers Moveon.org, george sorry @$$, and his "millions to defeat" President Bush? I guess he forgot all about that.
Any lawyer that can get a cross-dressing homosexual off murder charges after the victim's head had been cut off and thrown into the bay by the defendant is worth every penny.
"Bighouse Ronnie"? General Population? A Cellmate named Benjamin Dover?
