Kristol: ‘Mood is Bleak’ at White House (uh-huh)

Bill Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, said he expects indictments this week in the CIA leak case involving White House advisers Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.

Kristol said "the mood is bleak in the White House today,” and said the environment surrounding the federal grand jury testimony is "pretty grim.” Although the indictments may not ultimately result in anything substantive, Kristol said there is a pins-and-needles feel to the grand jury investigation into the leaking of a CIA agent's name to the media in 2003.

"The net has been cast wide,” Kristol told Fox News Tuesday. "Lots of junior aides have testified. It’s been a very comprehensive investigation by the prosecutor. I think there will be indictments and the mood is pretty bleak in the White House.”

As for what this means for President Bush and the daily working of the White House, Kristol said it is too early to tell.

"The White House has to ask, ‘How do we segregate this?’ … This is a problem, but the legal system has to run its course.

"Meanwhile,” Kristol said, "the president has to take the initiative on foreign policy and economic policy and sort of set this aside.”

Oh, really?

Then you must have missed his support for the War on Terror.

The WH can't talk about this, Wilson, the CIA, the WMD, that is supposed to be for any right-wing or just plain FAIR investigative reporters.

But they are AWOL as usual.

And have been for 40 years, in which they have made ZERO inroads into influencing and educating the average citizen here or abroad.

They are useless, and their peers on the left run rings around them day after day, year after year.

He is a little man that cannot live up to is Mother's reputation let alone his Dad's reputation.

Well as a conservative and an advocate of smaller government, I wouldn't want anyone to try to live up to Irving Kristol's reputation. I remember what he did in 2000 but I also remember 2-3 years ago his rag of a magazine taken as absolute truth when it advocated the invasion of Iraq, which it did endlessly

Actually, unlike you neo-coms, we call out other conservatives when they're acting like they want a nice write-up in the Style Section.
Neo-coms never question their leaders, as evidenced by none of them calling out Farrakhan for his latest rantings about levees being blown up.

Yes, but its human nature to jump out of the foxhole and on the "popular" bandwagon when your being attacked.

We just whine about it later, and blame someone else.

William Kristol was one of the original Neocons, and his Mother Getrude Himmelfarb was also a Neocon. They had stellar careers and as far as I know not in backstabbing. The Weekly Standard and Kristol were big proponents of The War on terrorism as most on freerepublic, and we realize Rome was not built in a day. kristol thinks we and the white House give a crap what he thinks. He is so small both physically and mentally that he should drive a Scion as his limousine.

You must have missed his support on the War for Terror and much of the administration's foreign policy.

Domestically, he has criticized President Bush most particularly on immigration and spending as have many conservatives.

I began reading Bill Kristol (who has one of the nation's BEST conservative mind's) long before GW ever came upon the National scene, and he doesn't base his opinions on who is in office, not now, no ever. Don't look for him to change. And that is a GOOD thing.

"If fitzgerald was going to indict Wednesday, would he not have already issued 'target' letters to those to be indicted? That certainly would have leaked."

Yep. And Rove or Libby (1) would not have testified anew and (2) would have stepped down. Thus, the question is really: Who has not testified? Wilson, Plame, Pinkus come to mind...
