Every time I hear about Toyota these days, it is bad news.

Whether it is Prius recalls, or their false advertising about their 'environmentally-friendly' cars - I have had enough.

And now this French connection? Please...

It's true. I don¡¦t understand why they hesitate. Peugeot, Renault and Citroen are sold all around the world except in North America. You can drive a Renault at London, Berlin, Tokyo, Sydney or Mexico but not in New York¡K ƒ¼

According to Renault group ( Nissan-Dacia-Samsung Motors), the American market would been saturated and already too competitive. Renault being already present with Nissan they do not plan to return to it for the moment with his own brand.

Peugeot would like to return to North America before 2009. Strategies are studied. Notably with a factory.

I got a laugh out of the detroit free press article from a few days ago. headline was "Asian vehicles rank low in survey"

then the article states that 29/31 most reliable cars are japanese....and that the least reliable japanese cars are the ones built in the US. haha nice spin

we used to get Top Gear here on discovery chnl. the UK show with little bits inserted with them saying "for you US viewers, bla bla bla"

but its been pulled and the story is that they're going to do a 100% american show. hope they dont ruin it. american car shows are crap, even on the "guy" network, Spike.

None of the US shows really shows the cars doing anything. (british) Top Gear is great. hope the US version will be too.

FYI, the European version of the Yaris is built in France. North American Yaris are assembled at the Takaoka Plant at Toyota City outside of Nagoya, Japan.

I am looking to buy one in the Spring, and would have no interest if they were built in France.

If the Yaris, when it arrives, is built in North America I will consider buying one.

Come on, it's not ugly, it's actually kind of nice compared to other subcompacts I have seen. It will sell to commuters like myself that want good cheap transportation. I don't need a big V8 to sit in traffic and I think hybrids will prove costly to own in the long run. With the Toyota name plate on it, I'm betting it will be reliable and somewhat fun to drive like the old Honda Civic hatchbacks.

Also it has "Ricer" potential, sort of like the Scion Xa so that will sell a few of them, too.

No baguette if what JayDL says is correct. Just the usual high-quality Japanese automotive product.

Maybe one can still special-order a French-made Yaris, however - to get red-wine-stained carpets, Brie cheese crumbs within the upholstery, and half the parts still on the shop floor due to ongoing "labor disputes".
