The evidence of the previous night's trouble is clear to see on the Bosquets estate.

Among the cars parked outside one block of flats are two burnt-out vehicles and small piles of debris. Rocks and stones are strewn across the street.
There is no sign of any security presence and people are shopping and chatting as on any normal day.
It does not take long to get a sense of the hostility some feel towards the police.
A driver pulls up in front of the market, his little boy strapped in the back of his car.
He admits belonging to a group that is sometimes a bit "chaud" - meaning troublesome - a hint at the unrest of the past few days.
He describes the nightly presence of the CRS, the French riot police, as provocation.
"If they didn't come here, into our area, nothing would happen," he says. "If they come here it's to provoke us, so we provoke back."

A year or so ago, the french equivalent of the Secret Service issued a report, which was quickly quelled, that there are 300 places in france where french law and french culture hold no sway.
It's not hard to guess where these 300 places are.

Racism
Pretty startling. We have heavily Arab areas, e.g. in New Jersey and Dearborne, Michigan, but you never hear about our police being afraid to go there. The Arabs there must know they are living in wussy-ville and can get away with it.
Honestly, anyone who has been to Euroupe lately knows...there's a "big" difference between the Arabs over here and the ones over there. (mostly)
The good ole USA Assimilates like the Borg...whereas France, for all its haughty noble preaching, keeps ethnic populations seperated and alienated within its culture.
I just read through the front pages of several French newspapers - they are underplaying this thing (or perhaps we are overstating it). No photos of the police or rioters like you would see here on the front page above the fold. http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/
They should cordon off the areas, stop all incoming mail etc., shut down the electrical, cable, etc. No police presence, no news reporters, no.....nothing, then let em burn it all to the ground. After all that the Muslims should be made to deal with their actions and face the consequences. They get NOTHING!
