My cousin, Sgt. David Taptto, is in a naval hospital facing a life of prosthesis. He was badly wounded in the second battle of Fallujah. We owe his life to a dedicated and gifted corpsman whose name we don't know. Dave was hit by enemy rocket fire. He was on life-support for two days, and we didn't know if he would survived.
Everything seemed to be going fine. We saw him in March when we went to Camp Pendleton for our son's homecoming from Ramadi with the 2/5 Marines, and Dave was doing fine, walking well. We all had dinner and a great time.
Recently, shrapnel in his leg caused severe problems and now Dave is facing surgery. Though the great Navy physicians are doing all they can to solve the problem without radical surgery, they had advised Dave to look into prostheses. We all know what that may mean.
Will you please pray for Dave? And I also ask you indulgence and pardon for departing from FR policy and polity. I am posting this, and then running for work, so I won't be around to answer posts until this evening.
Dave is such a good guy. He had dreams of being a police officer. He understands his life is not over, but he knows he must adjust his thinking and his goals.
Prayers up!!
God bless and may you have a speedy recovery.

Prayer set from TX
Not only will I pray for him, but my sister is an amputee, below the knee. She was in an accident 5 years ago and the damage basicall killed her leg. After many surgeries to remove dead tissue, muscle, etc, she was left with a lower leg that was wasting away. She had a floppy foot and had to constantly be vigilant about pressure sores and poor circulation that would lead to hyperthermia (I think it was that.) Anyway, she elected to have an amputation so that she would be able to have a normal life with normal movement. She and her husband met because they trained for triathlons together. If she would have kept her leg, she could only walk short distances with a bad limp. I know that she has spoken to many amputees and helped them. She also has done much research on the kind of surgery to have. If you or your brother would like further info, FReepmail me, please.
Praying for healing for your cousin as well as God's abundant grace in facing the future, whatever that may be.
Prayers for you cousin.
Also, have him watch the movie "Men of Honor" with Cuba Gooding. That changed my sister's life. He does NOT have to adjust his goals.
