EX-CBS producer Mary Mapes, fired over a controversial "60 Minutes II" story on President Bush's National Guard service, says she still believes the report was "true" and accurate.
"No one has proved that the documents were not authentic," Mapes says on this morning's "Good Morning America."
Mapes is breaking her silence to promote her new book, "Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power."

She says she "did not have it in for George Bush" and says she doesn't feel responsible for what happened to her colleagues in the scandal's aftermath.

What Mapes doesn't dispute is the fact that she called a member of John Kerry's presidential campaign before the "60 Minutes II" report aired.
"I wish to God I hadn't done it, because I think it was so widly misinterpreted," she says - adding that she only made the call to curry favor with the source who gave her the disputed documents.
"I don't think that I committed bad journalism. I really don't," she says.
Mapes says she's continuing to investigate the source of the documents.

Gutsy Goldberg tore her a new one on Hannity & Colmes tonight!
Spin, spin, spin . . .
Hey AC! How's it going?
Just like OJ's still looking for the "real" killer.
She can't prove she isn't an idiot, and until she does I'll assume she is.
The rest of her appearances will feature nothing but softballs, and the interviewers will take great pains to ensure Mapes doesn't embarrass herself like she did on GMA. I wonder how much crap Brian Ross is taking for (inadvertently, I'm sure) allowing her to eviscerate herself on national TV?
Time to stop digging, dear. /pat on head
What??? No appearance for little Miss Mary on Olbermann?? Even Keith's boyfriend, Dana Millbank, can get a sit-on....errrrrrrrr....I mean, sit-down.....with Keefy whenever he needs to spin the latest DNC propaganda........
Maybe she figures that she's too big time to bother with Olberman and his audience of ten DU moonbats.
I'm doing fine -- quite a hectic night, though. A public meeting for work, then a long phone call with an old friend in Alberta.
Everyone knows that Bush is EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL.
Knowing that, any document that points to that fact must, by default, be true. Even if the documents are slightly less than authentic, it doesn't take away from the veracity of the charges.
(Mapes can't see the moonbats because her wings keep getting in the way.)
That sums it up nicely. (others, see #39)
