Congresswoman: Three Al Qaeda Caught in U.S. After Crossing Border with Mexico
Wednesday, November 9, 2005 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/09/2005 4:49:04 PM PST by kristinn

Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.

During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'

No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.

Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.

Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.

A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.

Transcript:

"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."

Total agreement with you. I just think people who say Al Queada are coming to America because of "open borders" are not seeing it like you (or I) do. Their goal is to kill Americans, not to test the boundaries.

In reading this thread I must have missed the post where someone said that Al Queda is coming to America because of open borders. I know that's sure not what I am saying. Everyone knows why Al Queda wants to attack us.

The crux of this issue is that we know there are terrorists who want to successfully attack us again. We know the different options they have for getting into the U.S. We need to secure ALL of those "options", not just a few of them.

I know I'm not the only one who can see that this is such a simple case of "commonsense", that it's downright amazing that anyone would even argue against it. wow

Some of live near the borders and have to deal with the "rabouillet" from points south, daily.

A brother of a RINO Congressman has found diaries written in farsi and arabic along with the rest of the trash in a pasture in southern arizona.

Bush has done more, DHS has policies which protect the illegals.

DHS only shows concern when it's not Mexicans.

The Bush administration and possibly President Bush himself do not have the best interests of middle class americans on this issue and has repeatedly made statements negating concern about illegal migrants.

The data is here, just look at the aliens list, read and learn what's really going on before you dis someone who disagrees with you, or at least give a rational argument without the ad-hominems.

heehee. Yes I can see it; the hijackers had pilot identities on them. Can you see an American Airlines 757 captain walking thru the desert? "Honest Officer, I am late for my plane!"

It is something that needs to be considered. But we need to reform other areas as well. We aren't out of the woods yet.

Too risky getting caught and shipped out. Much safer to come in on a student or work visa from the middle east and get lost in the system and overstay your welcome. Heck it's about all the Homeland dept does anymore is round up people who aren't supposed to be here (expired student visas, etc) and sending them out.

In case you didn’t forget the sarcasm tag, let me point out a couple things. A small percent are “caught” at the border. Shipped out? They don’t ship out OTM’s..(other than Mexicans) They release them! Hundreds of thousands of them.

Visas? LOL! We have 3.6 million visa overstays that the government will acknowledge. They have no idea where they are. This administration had 51 agents assigned to find those MILLIONS. It’s not happening.

This isn’t the first instance of terrorists found operating near the border. Rumsfeld has warned about it, as have many others. It’s all on Free Republic. Amazing what one can learn. If you can't find the links, let me know.

It is definitely not that hard to cross the border... Too many achieve their goal to say otherwise.

As far as Al Qaeda using the borders - my guess is that these people are the "expendable" type of operatives. IMHO we have to start breaking up the cells of operatives who have been here legally for years - some of whom are now citizens - if we want to end the threat from Al Qaeda.

I will admit that closing the border might at least help in regards to making it harder for terrorists - and other illegal immigrants - to take advantage of the US.

I don't think so, why do you say this.

If you were a terrorist wanting to spend time and money without getting caught or drawing attention, you wouldn't come across the Mexican line.

If you are going to argue, first learn and then debate. Obviously you are not up to speed and haven't done your homework.

...the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Three? It doesn't count unless it's a stockpile of terrorists.

Bound to happen sooner or later. Wonder how many others have previously slithered in here, without detection, and are now laying low in the mosques.

Personal experience. Lots of Palestinians, etc got student visas in the 1990's. Never graduated and never left the country.

Did this perhaps happen about the same time that our Homeland Security Director decided that we needed to stop illegal immigration? Could the two events be related?

First of all, I was very polite in responding to you and I told you I respected your opinion, but that I disagreed with it. I also did not "put words in your mouth". I asked two questions.

I agree that we should all be thankful if in fact three Al Qaeda terrorists were caught crossing the border. That does not negate the fact, therefore, that terrorists decided to enter the U.S. through the pourous border with Mexico. Kudos for them! They know what WE know. That there is a great, gaping hole in our national security. And just because we caught three of them, does not mean we will catch them all.

Now, you can respond to me if you so choose but I will not get into a flame war over this issue. I will take the sarcastic parts of your post to me graciously this time, but I won't respond if you do not want to discuss the issue in a more dignified fashion. :)

Hundreds were injured and 167 men, women and children died when a truck loaded with improvised explosives were detonated.

Just wondering if AQ needs to have MORE bombs than McVeigh to be able to kill as many or more? /sarc
