Somebody please explain to me why Phelps is doing this. He is the anti-gay guy, isn't he? What interest does he have in military funerals?

When I first saw the tease I saw the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it threw me, but the funeral is an LDS funeral and another group is planning to protest his funeral.

This is SO WRONG .. please I do not know what we can do but know my prayer's are out there for this family and their patriotic soldier who gave all for this country.

Perhaps this has already been discussed, but just in case - has anyone ever looked at where this jerk gets his money to do all this traveling? Is he independently wealthy, or is there a "soros" behind the scenes?

Anybody know?

The man, and his cult, is consumed with hate. He's always protested the military actions in the gulf, going back several administrations.

Not surprisingly, he's run in the Democrat primaries for governor many times.

Phelps is a professional left-wing bomb thrower pretending to be a Christian. His purpose, I think, is to make Christianity look bad with stunts like this one.

Hmm, I wonder what part the Mormon church has in all this. I've had my own less-than-pleasant experiences with Mormon mid and upper-level clergymen (specifically, when I got saved and joined a Southern Baptist church). I wonder what dog they have in this fight, if they have one at all.

I'm a Mormon. So was the fallen soldier and his family. They are holding his funeral at the church. Nothing sinister about that.

Because, he also hates America. He's doing this because, according to his words, we have "spit in the face of God by allowing gays into the military". As I've often said- "God Bless whatever kills Fred Phelps".

Folks, there was a 1940’s case – Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire where the SCOTUS ruled that certain speech under certain conditions can be considered "fighting words," and that the person engaging in such speech can be punished if their utterances inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace.

If that doesn’t apply here, I don’t know what does. Now, be advised that in the interim, the courts haven’t favored the “fighting words’ doctrine but maybe as SCOTUS takes on a slightly different character and make-up, this might resurrect it. Maybe a test case is in order.

The post regarding the planned picket in Elkhart, Indiana of Maj. Bloomfield's visitation tomorrow keeps getting pulled - Can you tell me why? The other notices regarding the picketing in Colorado and Wisconsin are still up, but the one regarding Indiana keeps disappearing...

There are a total of three protests planned by this group tomorrow and the friends and families of these soldiers appreciate our support & spreading the word... Please see the following posts for proof:

Thank heaven. I have been praying for a picket around the funerals of our heroes so their families are not further pained by the protestors who have invaded their grief.

The title line makes it sound as though they plan to protest that he have a funeral.

Certainly not. I apologize if I offended you in any way, but I have some strong opinions on this matter that aren't really relevant to this discussion and should be saved for a more appropriate thread.

Phelps, though, has got sinister written all over him. I would not be a bit surprised to find out he was funded by some rich left-winger somewhere. It's the kind of chicanery that the left is always accusing Rove of but that they actually engage in themselves.

Isn't this the same guy that wants to move a bunch of Christians into each state and then vote to secede? Sounds like something that Jesus definitely wouldn't do. In fact, Jesus didn't even start a war when he could have against flat out pagans that were occupying the Holy Land.

If I am not working tommorrow I will fire up the Harley and ride over with a few "brothers". Will pass this on to all the bikers I know in the area. I hope the LDS does not find us offensive.
