From my copy of “WWII: 4,139 Strange and Fascinating Facts”, (pg. 359):
“Marvin, Lee (b.1924): Hollywood actor. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was seventeen years old and assaulted twenty-one beaches in the Pacific from Kwajelein to Saipan as a member of I Company, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Division. In the battle for Saipan, of 247 in his company, only he and five others survived. Marvin was wounded on Saipan, was evacuated on the hospital ship Solace, and spent thirteen months hospitalized. (Until his death) he continued to receive a one hundred percent disability for his injuries. At the time Marvin was fighting in the Pacific, his father fought in Europe as an Army sergeant.”
Pretty incredible story, eh?

Awesome! I noticed what was written about Audie Murphy. Audie had trouble geting into the military at first because he was small. Well, he eventually was able to talk them into letting him in. Audie Murphy ended up being the most decorated WW2 service member of all. HE WENT INTO THE MILITARY SMALL AND CAME OUT THE BIGGEST ONE OF ALL.

You won’t find this creed in the current crop of people hitting Hollywood nowadays.

I conducted a keyword search of famous military veterans or something like that and your thread came up. Since I’m a member of FR, it caught my eye.
