The damage is pretty bad......They're being towed back to Seattle Center tonight and tomorrow.

I take an interest in this because I used to be one of the 4 or 5 people who were daily commuters on the monorail.  Now I live with a view straight down the line.

Photo reminds me of two ferries trying to fit into the same berth a few years ago.

I usually walk on the other side of the street so I hadn't seen the Red Train until this morning when the two guys who work for me, and myself, went down to see it.  I'm an IT Director and the two others are the Network Admin and Web Designer so, you can well imagine we found no end of amusement when we saw who'd bought the side of the train.

Windows Cluster Server?

Aw, it's not for you. It's more of a Shelbyville idea.

I think it is interesting that this whole problem only developed after they *re-built* the track in that spot, moving them closer together to somehow allow for the design of the Westlake center.

Yikes. Why design in an obvious problem like that?

I thought it was a photshopped joke. It really says that??

A Windows 2003 Cluster is rock solid by the way.

They've been running on those same fixed tracks for 43 years - how is a collision possible?

Ya...ironically, it's not a Photoshop.  And to be honest, I really like all of the 2003 server line.

It was just too easy to take a cheap shot.

There was apparently an ill-considered re-alignment in the
1980s. The "pinch" that resulted relied on visual signals
to avoid collision. It would appear that the only thing
remarkable about this crash was that it took this long
before the first one happened.

Steve, back in the late eighties, they moved the tracks closer together in the turn to make way for development. There is a procedure in place that one train is supposed to wait for the other so that they are both not in the turn at the same time. It has worked for 15+ years. It cracks me up to listen to the media types explain exactly this procedure and then say that the "cause of the crash is still not known at this time", LOL!

They had to narrow the tracks at a turn when the Westlake Center Station was built.  So this accident has been possible since the mid-80s.

As far as I can tell, there's only like 1 rule the train operators have to follow: DON'T PULL INTO THE TURN WHEN THE OTHER TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION.

They usually slow down...and there's a warning light on the track.  I imagine the driver pulling into Westlake was talking to someone on the train and missed the warning light.  On these trains there's a passenger seat right next to the driver (on both ends of the train) and normally kids sit there and talk to the operator.  He or she was probably talking to the kids when they went past the warning light.

It's too bad, most everyone involved in the Seattle Center Monorail is really very nice.

Ya... Cluster Server 2003 is a darn fine product, IMHO. Along with the rest of the Server 2003 line.

But that doesn't keep me from getting a little chuckle at Bill's expense from time to time. :-)

Most forms of public transportation suck, just like Windows.
