Professor Mirecki now mum on alleged beating: Alleged beating by "Christians" a hoax?
WorldNetDaily ^ | 12.08.05 | Jack Cashill

Posted on 12/08/2005 1:52:58 PM PST by rface

KU professor Paul Mirecki reported that two men who did not appreciate his expressed views on Christianity beat him on a Kansas road. He is no longer taking phone calls or talking to the press. He has also resigned as chairman of the Religious Studies Department.

[ snip ]

Skeptics have begun to poke holes in Mirecki's story.

[ snip ]

[ snip ]

Mirecki had posted a number of anti-Christian comments on the Internet. KU Chancellor Hemenway described as "repugnant and vile," Mirecki was forced to apologize and drop the course.

[ snip ]

Mirecki first said: two white men, in their 30s or 40s, tailgating him in a pickup. "I just pulled over hoping they would pass, and then they pulled up real close behind," he told the reporters. "They got out, and I made the mistake of getting out."

[ snip ]

There are no eyewitnesses. Mirecki did not identify the truck's license plate. He reported the incident at 6:40 a.m.

[snip ]

Mirecki's story has been reported on CNN, CBS, and others.

[ snip ]

[ snip ]

[ SNIP ]

skeptics are hoping that the Douglas County Sheriffs ask which breakfast establishment he was driving. Most places open at that time of day would be in Lawrence proper. Mirecki's trip to town is all along well-lit streets.

[ SNIP ]

Then there is the question of Mirecki's behavior at the scene. Two men were tailgating him. They pulled over and got out, and then, as Mirecki tells it, he too got out on a dark country road to confront them. These details trouble, but they do not undo Mirecki's story, and it would be imprudent to suggest otherwise until the inquiry is complete.

"Not surprisingly, left-wing blogs are blaze with indignation. The Daily Kos, arguably the most influential liberal weblog in the United States, ran as it headline yesterday, "Thugs beat up evolution supporter – We're fighting back."

Hey, the hippies are upset, it almost makes me wish the story was true.

Aww. Did the white Christian elves give him a good thrashing?

Mirecki agreed to a description of Pope John Paul II as "a corpse in a funny hat wearing a dress.I refer to him as J2P2 (John Paul II), like the Star Wars robot R2D2," Mirecki wrote.

Mirecki followed up the announcement a class with an e-mail:

"The fundies want it all taught in a science class, but this will be a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching it as a religious studies class under the category 'mythology,' " he wrote in a Nov. 19 message.

Mirecki described his first experience in a Catholic Mass:
"I had my first Catholic 'holy communion' when I was a kid in Chicago, and when I took the bread-wafer the first time, it stuck to the roof of my mouth, and as I was secretly trying to pry it off with my tongue as I was walking back to my pew with white clothes and with my hands folded, all I could think was that it was Jesus' skin, and I started to puke, but I sucked it in and drank my own puke. That's a big part of the Catholic experience. I don't think most Catholics really know what they are supposed to believe, they just go home and use condoms, and some of them beat their wives and husbands."

FROM CHRISTMAS 2004 ARCHIVES

MIDI - SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN

You'd better watch out...you'd better not lie
Spray paint your car...I'm telling you why
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

Reporting a crime...and calling it hate
May make yourself a ward of the state
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

We know where she'll be sleeping
We know where she will read
We know where she'll relieve herself
She should not have done the deed

Oh, you'd better watch out...you'd better not lie
Pull insurance fraud...I'm telling you why
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

She caused an uproar...and shut down the place
Whining about one's gender or race
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

She played victocrat...it turned out all wrong
CMC now tells Kerri so long
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

We know where she'll be sleeping
We know where she will read
We know where she'll relieve herself
She should not have done the deed

Oh, you'd better watch out...you'd better not lie
You may stripes...I'm telling you why
Kerri Dunn is going to jail

Mirecki claims he was taking an early morning drive to clear his head. Presumably, he was returning to Lawrence to have breakfast, so that would not be inconsistent with his claims.

What undoes his story is his basic character: He is a frequent poster on a site for athiests and signs his anti-Christian rants as "Evil Dr. P." The professor presents a public face of a laid-back, reasonable guy, but when no one is looking (e-mails and message sites) he is an angry, hateful bigot.

I don't think his story about being beat up will square because he does not appear to be a man of character. And, his story is all over the board when it could be straight-forward. Sure looks like a practiced liar.

Malkin says (link in a post above) that he resigned "on the recommendation of his colleagues". Now think about this: The semester is almost over. He could resign in a week or so. There is no pressing need to do this now. Also, it seems clear that the religious studies department at KU isn't exactly teeming with faculty who are sympathetic to religion, so they must feel that something very embarassing will come out very soon.
Malkin: I contacted the Lawrence Memorial Hospital for more details on the nature of Mirecki's injuries. Citing HIPAA regulations, a hospital spokeswoman declined to provide any more information. She did state that Mirecki was not hospitalized, as many MSM reports have claimed, but came to the emergency room and was "treated and released."

I should note that I made this point on another thread before Malkin's report.

In 1990, a liberal, older single woman in the liberal CA city of Davis (near Sacramento) alleged she was beaten and raped by a throng of "skate punks".

A CNN story ensued and the police cracked down. For two weeks, if you were anywhere NEAR a skateboard in the city of Davis, you would experience a "felony stop" (officer pulls gun, issues you orders to get down on the concrete, etc.).

I know because I was one of those suspected "skate punks".

The woman had made it all up, and she was backed up by all the liberal groups in town, and they never took back any of the strident statements of support that they had made on her behalf.

12 years of Catholic school and I missed the "big part of the Catholic experience" where you're supposed to drink your own puke.

"I don't think most Catholics really know what they are supposed to believe, they just go home and use condoms, and some of them beat their wives and husbands."

Quite the brilliant and incisive statement on Catholicism. I'd sure be proud if I was paying him to teach my kids. I always wonder, how do people at this level of intellect even manage to get past the 9th grade, let alone acquire college degrees?

Mirecki added that the men beat him about the upper body with their fists and "thinks they struck him with a metal object." Lt. Wempe is aware of no eyewitnesses, and also reports that Mirecki did not identify the truck's license plate. He reported the incident at 6:40 a.m. Whether he called from the scene or at Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he went for treatment is uncertain.

If this were the case, he would not have been able to drive himself to the hospital, and likely would have been left on the side of the road by any would be aytackers. He certainly would not have been able to teach a class that afternoon; and he certainly would have mentioned it to his class if he could have. On top of that, he's not sure where the attack occurred? Shouldn't be hard to find, because if he was severely beaten, there should be some blood somewhere on the side of the road; and in his car, as well.

Besides, what idiot gets out of his car when confronted in such a manner? Will be interesting to find out where he spent the night on Sunday; and with whom?

Equating creationism with mythology dismayed some legislators, but many became angry when they learned of an e-mail Mirecki wrote to a listserv about the course. The Mirecki e-mail referred to the recent controversy over whether intelligent design should be taught in Kansas public schools.

“The fundies want it all taught in a science class, but this will be a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching it as a religious studies class under the category ‘mythology,’” Mirecki wrote.

He signed the note “Doing my part (to upset) the religious right, Evil Dr. P.”

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2005/nov/29/ku_course_creates_furor_topeka/gc

(Looks like the 'evil religious right' ignored him and he just couldn't handle it, LOL!)

Above in the threat Loud Mine linked Michele's article about the good professor. There she links his letter of resignation. The letter is totally dishonest claiming he's resigning over the class rather than why he was really forced to resign - expressed bigotry and hatred of Christians.

If he is lying there, to people he knows are aware of the truth, it is not a stretch to suspect he is lying about being attacked by the Christians he hates and smears in his classes.

It is certainly ironic that fellow dedicated to survival of the fittest would beat himself up. But it would be no surprise if this guy really suffered a thumping at the hands of a couple PO'd people. One does not establish a university class dedicated to ridiculing other people's beliefs without inviting negative consequences. Some how the "cause and effect" nature of this incident has been lost on our local scientists. They'd rather use this episode to paint creationists in a bad light.

Yes, I remember that story (and a number of previous similar ones). But at least those profs admitted that the claimed incident hadn't occurred. Naturally, all these people justify such staged frauds as drawing urgently needed attention to the alleged fact that things like this really do happen frequently. As I recall, one scam along these lines was actually perpetrated by a Catholic nun, who used the same sort of leftobabble to justify her actions after she was exposed.
