Target Includes 'Christmas,' AFA Drops Boycott
American Family Association (AFA) has announced that it is ending its boycott of Target because the company has announced that it will include Christmas in their advertising and in-store promotions.
"We are pleased to learn that Target has heard our concerns and decided to use Christmas in their advertising and marketing efforts. Since the company has responded positively, we see no need to continue the boycott, said AFA Chairman Donald E. Wildmon.
Nearly 700,000 people had signed up to join the Target boycott at afa.net on the AFA website. Wildmon said that many companies have decided to drop their ban on Christmas.
In their official statement, Target said: "Over the course of the next few weeks, our advertising, marketing and merchandising will become more specific to the holiday that is approaching referring directly to holidays like Christmas and Hanukkah. For example, you will see reference to Christmas in select television commercials, circulars and in-store signage.
"We do not have a policy or intention of excluding the word Christmas from our holiday advertising or marketing. Christmas images and themes have been used in our advertising and marketing in the past and you will continue to see these images and themes in the future.
"We think you will see a different approach next year, Wildmon said.

I frequnetly disagree with AFA but this shows real class. Any other group would have wanted compensation, legal fees etc. Jesse would want to appoint half of Target's board. AFA just got Christmas off the banned list and dropped the boycott. Very classy.
Target never "banned" Christmas. They merely weren't using it in their advertising.
Shame on Wildmon for not acknowledging the difference.
Whew! I'm glad I can now look for my faith in the important places, like Target!!
Ok, Target. That got my attention. Now what about the bell ringers?
Exactly my thought!
Now everyone's safe to celebrate the birth of their Savior via gross over-consumption.
I find it odd to see so much support for soviet-style social engineering on this website. It seems odd that Target plays Christmas muzak in their stores, but didn't want to use the word in their advertising.
If I knew what the heck you were taking about, I'd try to respond.
It has nothing to do with your faith, and I am sorry you have missed the big picture. It is all part of the same leftist PC nonsense that has been tearing down our culture and traditions. The same people responsible for making Christmas a 4-letter word, are the same people for gay marriage, for the cross being removed from the hill in San Diego, for the ban on real Christmas carols in school that we sang for our whole lives, for quotas, for ballots being published in multiple languages, etc. These are the leftists and socialists, and some of us have finally had enough. People shouldn't be afraid to say Christmas, merchants shouldn't be afraid to say Christmas tree, and companies shouldn't be afraid to have Christmas parties.
Okay, you are the winner. You didn't bring Nazi into it, but you brought in Soviet-style engineering. The Soviet-style engineering is coming from the left as they try to destroy the culture and traditions that made this nation great.
Why did Target drop Christmas from its advertising?
Enough of this persecution complex already. It's almost a paranoid delusion.

I don't see how the real tradition and culture of Christmas is threatened by merchants not saying "Merry Christmas".
The REAL MEANING of Christmas has NOTHING to do with shopping in a mall or superstore, anymore than it has to do with materialistic "Christians" stepping on top of each other to get to the nearest X-Box360 display or Talking&Peeing Elmo doll.
People should stick to living the REAL meaning of Christmas by celebrating the birth of Jesus, being with family, and giving to others, rather than expecting merchants to always say the right thing.
I think that the Christian groups who boycott Target and other places have the right method - just stop shopping there! If Target and others saw a large % drop in their stores during CHRISTMAS season while observing normal/elevated numbers elsewhere, they'd drop this "holiday" crap pronto.
It DOES have something to do with faith. For it's faith that is the 'reason of the season', NOT WHERE YOU SHOP and the type of greeting you receive!!
For the record, I've yet to meet anyone who's offended by this nonsense and am curious how many people truly ARE offended. Any ideas?
There are a lot of people who think this Christmas thing is much ado about nothing and not worth worrying about.
That's how we got in the PC mess we're in.
If it's not important, why have all the ACLU types and anti-religious types worked so hard to eliminate mentions of Christmas.
Now that we've finally waked up, they're seeing the error of their ways.
Calling a Christmas tree something other than a Christmas tree is not only annoying, it's just stupid.
I should have addressed my comments to you.
Still no sign of Christmas on their web page. Plenty of "holiday" links, but no "Christmas".
