I really cannot believe she had the brass bound gall to do this. The city government fails its citizens so completely, so miserably, that many of them actually die horrific deaths, and then uses those same circumstances and their failures, in an effort to stay in power. It's disgusting, and why isn't it front page news all over the country?

Does anyone know the legal position? It certainly seems like extreme stupidity to put out an executive order indefinitely delaying the elections, and an abuse of power.

Is there any provision for such behavior in the constitution or laws of Louisiana?

There's not much doubt why she wants to postpone the election. Many thousands of welfare recipients and lazy layabouts are still out of state, and it might not be easy for the Democrats to fake enough absentee ballots. Tough.

Interesting how the hurricane exposed the politicians for who they are: politicians hacks void of leadership.

"founder of the new Orleans Zephyrs."
HORSEHOCKY! The New Orleans Zephyrs are the old Denver Zephyrs. The descendent's of the beloved Denver Bears founded by Bob Howsom. The architect of the Big Red Machine in the early seventies.

There are some principles that transcend partisan politics. The right to hold free and fair elections is one of them. If we can conduct elections in Afghanistan, Iraq and St. Bernard Parish, surely we can hold elections in Orleans Parish. If Governor Blanco will not allow an election, then she must forfeit her own,” Villere said.

Ouch! And so true. If Iraqi's and Afghani's are facing suicide bombers and threats of retaliation yet willing to go vote, then LA voters have no excuse.

Blanco and her Dems are just scared to death their voting base is gone which means they are out of power.

that Governor Blanco stepped beyond the limit of Louisiana law when she signed an executive order indefinitely delaying the elections.

I thought only banana republics did this.

The existing NO politicians have a skin in the "it's FEMA's fault" blame game. If elections were held in February, and a new crop of politicians who aren't in CYA mode take over with a fresh pair of eyes, it will drastically alter the balance of power unless they can also be controlled somehow. I suspect that is why they want to defer the NO elections -- to keep new unencumbered eyes out.

Until the voters of Louisiana get rid of the Democrat Party scum and failed, useless Black leadership in New Orleans, Louisiana is going nowhere. If the people and voters of Louisiana think serious investment in rebuilding the city of NO is going to come in while this human vermin is in power, they are smoking funny stuff. Idiots, wake up, the Feds and business folk are telling you outright in plain english to get rid of the Democrat vermin, right now. The vermin is: any Black Democrat, any White Democrat, Kathleen Blanco, Mary Landrieu, William Jefferson, etc. End of story!!!

Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution states that the United States shall guarantee to the states a republican form of government. So apparently there's a federal hook here, if the Bush administration wants to use it. I'm betting they'll stay well clear.

"...let the recall begin."

Seems like with N.O. empty, that has to have a significant effect on LA politics. Maybe a recall would be a good way to test Republican/conservative strength, if any, in the state sans New Orleans.
