Site Offers Clues to User in Web Chat With Ehrlich Aide (WaPo on MD4Bush - FR Mentioned)
Washington Post ^ | 12/16/05 | Eric Rich

Posted on 12/15/2005 10:10:59 PM PST by conservative in nyc

The operators of a conservative Web site yesterday released three e-mail addresses they said were connected to the anonymous site user who drew a former aide to Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) into discussions of a smear campaign against a political rival -- and one of the addresses matched that of a former state Democratic Party official.

A spokesman for the Free Republic Web site said the account MD4BUSH was originally created by someone with access to the e-mail address ryanrock2004@yahoo.com . The address of record was changed twice, first to rodoherty@mddems.org and later to brianwaverly@yahoo.com , said Web site spokesman Kristinn Taylor.

Ryan O'Doherty, a former spokesman for the Maryland Democratic Party, did not return calls for comment yesterday. The e-mail address on his business card while working for the party was rodoherty@mddems.org .

Taylor and Ehrlich's chief legal counsel, Jervis S. Finney, stopped short yesterday of alleging that O'Doherty was MD4BUSH. While Taylor said the address gives "the appearance of someone associated with the [Democratic] party" being involved, he said MD4BUSH need not have had access to O'Doherty's address to list it as the e-mail affiliated with the account.

Derek Walker, the party's current spokesman, said yesterday that the party's staff, current and former, "had nothing to do with MD4BUSH."

The links between MD4BUSH and the addresses were first reported Wednesday evening by WBAL-TV in Baltimore.

In the fall of 2004, the anonymous user engaged former aide Joseph Steffen, also posting anonymously, in discussions of the spreading of rumors about Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's personal life.

Ehrlich fired Steffen in February, within hours of learning The Washington Post was preparing a story on exchanges in which Steffen said "a few folks put in a lot of effort to ensure the [O'Malley] story got some real float."...

The WaPo's story on the recent developments in the MD4Bush saga. This wasn't written by Matthew Mosk.

More at the link, mainly background on previous events.

Okay, I'm not exactly up to speed on the whole MD4Bush thing. Who was he, what did he do, etc.

Not written by Mosk, and not a mention of Mosk using MD4Bush's account to verify FReemails.

What is left out of this article is more damning than what is written.

Typical.

For background, read the MD4Bush Primer and the links included in that post. This article by Stephen Spruiell at National Review is also very informative.

Yep. Looks like they're trying to get ahead of the curve, eh?

Or better yet....ahead of the avalanche!

Also from the article:

O'Doherty worked for the Democratic Party at the time that MD4BUSH was chatting with Steffen. He left in January for a job in Baltimore. E-mails sent to all three addresses yesterday were returned as undeliverable.

muawiyah - did your attempts to contact the two Yahoo! e-mail addresses bounce back?

Later in the piece the article said:

"...O'Doherty worked for the Democratic Party at the time that MD4BUSH was chatting with Steffen. He left in January for a job in Baltimore. E-mails sent to all three addresses yesterday were returned as undeliverable."

It looks like he is trying to cover his tracks and removed his Yahoo! and MDDems emails.

Things may have changed since last night. FReeper muawiyah said he sent e-mails to the Yahoo! e-mail addresses last night, which (as of his post last night) did NOT bounce back.

I recall that. He must have tried to sanitize the addresses
as this was coming out. Yahoo! keeps member info for 90 days
after an account is closed, so if the law wanted to look into this that is how long they have. The MdDems address he has more control of.

Which would mean, of course, that he controls the server and isn't simply using some common carrier.

Hmmmm! Curiouser and curiouser.

What continues to astound me: The origins of all this. A rumor about Democrat O'Malley. Maybe true; maybe not. At this point, who cares? The "plant" in FR brought the "rumor" forward. Making cozy with Republican Steffan of Ehrlich's office. Steffan made no substantial remarks upon the rumor; instead brushing it aside. Steffan's "activity" is charged as "rumormongering" on the Internet and against Democrat O'Malley. Steffan resigns wishing to bring no dishonor to Ehrlich's office.

Okay, the current bruaha aside... what does this tell me? The rumor is probably true. And the only one really worried about this rumor being true is Maryland Democrats, and possibly that Mrs. O'Malley might be a true terror in life and limb to Maryland Democrats and Mr. O'Malley. Otherwise, I just don't get it. Democrats are the ones who, during Clinton/Monica escapades, said that "sex" doesn't matter.

Then, that Dems would go to THIS much drama and continue to is mind blowing.

And now with the current "denials" from the Dems and WaPo, tells me they are still trying to deny a rumor. Bury it.

On another thread, I read where Dems are making obliquely worded threats against Jim Robinson and FR.

What's that old chestnut about "when we practice to deceive"....?

It all just gets worse, doesn't it.

This entire episode is just another prime example of how the left wing rats know that they can't win an election honestly by telling the voters what they stand for.

They have to lie and spin via their PR wing, the MSM and use their illegal voters to even come close to winning outside of their Blue Corrals/compounds.

Last but not least, the last thing they want on earth is a truth exposing site like Free Republic. They know what FR did to the Mapeist and Blather. So FR has been and is infiltrated by rat moles posing as conservatives.

In this latest attempted rape of the truth, we are getting to see the real under belly of the beast.

Richard, there is probably a book hiding in this mess waiting for you to mine it from the bs.
