How a lesbian, liberal
Democrat turned Tookie's
lights out

It was a little after midnight as scores of pro-gang activists gathered in a vigil to honor their hero "Tookie" Williams. I was at this media group-grope at San Quentin prison. As reporters interviewed reporters, I stood watching and waiting for the inevitable nuttiness I knew was going to follow.

Aware of the growing passion amongst those in the pro-Crips contingent, I decided to leave before any unruly mobs could materialize with their threats to run down anyone who didn't believe in "Tookie's" innocence.

Melanie Morgan Outside San Quentin Prison

Williams (whose real first name is Stanley; "Tookie" is his Crips' gang name that he refused to renounce) was finally put to death early on Tuesday for the murders of four innocent people.

Thank God. And thank Susan Kennedy.

Ironically, justice was served because of the hiring of a liberal, lesbian, abortion-rights activist named Susan Kennedy, a top aide to recalled-Gov. Gray "Electricity Crisis" Davis.

Before watching the lights go out under Davis, Kennedy had served as the executive director of the California Democrat Party.

And with that background and track record of political involvement, you can understand why the world of Republican politicos was rocked a couple of weeks ago when Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he had chosen Susan Kennedy to serve as his top adviser – his chief of staff.

Schwarzenegger's selection of Kennedy set off a firestorm in the GOP, and with good reason. Consider the reaction of Democrats had John Kerry or Al Gore named Karl Rove as their chief of staff.

Gov. Schwarzenegger already had problems with his conservative base after several missteps during his first term. But the Susan Kennedy appointment was the one that had solidified the backlash against Schwarzenegger by fellow Republicans.

And now Schwarzenegger was in a bind. If he granted "Tookie" clemency, he would have surely turned growing Republican skepticism into a full-blown GOP revolt against him.

Schwarzenegger had gotten himself into this mess when he agreed to grant Williams a hearing to consider sparing him from the death penalty. It was another one of those "I want to reach out to the liberal people of California" gestures that reminded conservatives why they didn't much like Schwarzenegger in the first place.

Angered victims'-rights groups questioned how Schwarzenegger could possibly consider granting clemency to a man who had founded the Crips gang and murdered four human beings. "Tookie's" Crips have robbed, raped and murdered thousands upon thousands of innocent victims, destroying whole families and neighborhoods.

When he was convicted of murder, jurors on the Williams' trial said "Tookie" had looked over toward them, called them "sons of bitches" and threatened that he would exact revenge and, "was going to get all of them."

No wonder the criminal-coddling liberals love him so much!

The "SaveTookie.org" website has proclaimed "Tookie" to be, "a great fighter against racism, injustice, and the death penalty."

They celebrate his stand against the death penalty? Apparently, "Tookie" only supports death by gang-murder, but opposes capital punishment. "Good for him" cheer the soft-on-crime liberal apologists!

Liberals have turned the concepts of "right" and "wrong" on their head. They now are amazingly redefining prison as a resume-booster, like a college degree or a record of involvement with charitable organizations.

Patt Morrsion, who writes liberal witticisms for the Los Angeles Times and delivers liberal invective over the airwaves for National Public Radio, wrote this week that: "Not everyone who goes to prison is Nelson Mandela or Mahatma Gandhi ... Being sent to prison does not automatically give anyone a leg up the hero ladder."

Apparently Ms. Morrisson thinks that lots of the time going to prison does make one a hero.

Maybe Ms. Morrisson is unaware of the fact that another Mandela has been involved with the effort to re-write history to demean victims and their families. Winnie Mandela, Nelson's ex-wife, spent time at San Quentin strategizing with "Tookie" Williams on how to avoid the death penalty.

What a great match, since Winnie Mandela was herself accused of murdering a 13-year-old boy.

The same liberals who are now making "Tookie" Williams into a martyr, demanding a state funeral for a cold-blooded killer, also spawned Susan Kennedy, that far-left, liberal activist who now serves as Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's right-hand woman.

So, did Susan Kennedy kill "Tookie"?

In the Byzantine twists of California politics, the governor denied clemency to Stanley "Tookie" Williams because Schwarzenegger knew he could not survive the hemorrhaging of any more Republican support.

And for that you can thank Susan Kennedy, the woman who was on the watch when the lights went out in California during the energy crisis under Gray Davis.

This time you could say she turned the lights out on "Tookie."

We often hear of homosexuals using black people as an excuse to further their agenda. What an irony! What if Tookie wasn't straight?

Or maybe he thought it was the right thing to do.

Maybe Arnold just let the punishment go through because the Tookster wasn't very repentent. He killed 4 people, didn't care and the punishment went forward. Besides, did the Governator's chief-of-staff argue FOR Williams' execution? How did she play a role?

Whatever conservatives want to say negatively about Susan Kennedy in the future, at least she can stand tall to her liberal friends that she was able to pull the final plug on Tookie.

Justice does come around from time to time.

Tookie related. I received this in a email this morning.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through San Quentin,
the crips were protesting, and liberals were ventin'.

The cyanide hung by the chamber with care, in hopes that the reaper
soon would be there.

The inmates were nestled all snug in their bed ;
except for Old Tookie, who soon would be dead.

And me with my beer mug, dressed warm in my flannell, had curled up
to watch it, on the Fox News Channel.

I set up my TIVO to record the news station, and thoroughly loved
the momentous occasion.

It seemed lady justice had gotten her way, and that there would be
one less savage today.

When outside the jail there arose such a clatter, the cameras had
turned to see what was the matter.

When what to my civilized eyes did appear, but a lineup of actors,
all liberal, half queer.

The misguided freaks drew some curious looks, as they proclaimed his
innocence; clutching his books.
The tears then flew out from Sarandon's eyes, as she nominated him
again for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The actors were tethered to an ACLU sleigh, all towing the line of
the urban decay.

On Asner, on Penn, on liberal cop-haters,
On Sharpton, on Jesse and other race-baiters.

Then at 12:01 all curled up like a beetle, Tookie cried like a bitch
as they gave him the needle.

When up from the actors there arose such a cry, they had failed in
their mission, and Tookie DID DIE !!

I heard Bill O'Reilly say, as I turned out my light, Merry Christmas
to all ... there was justice tonight !!

"Or maybe he thought it was the right thing to do."

Slim odds on that being the reason.

No evidence that sort of thinking guides him.

Arnold may be controversial but I don't think he made his decision based on politics. The facts were there and he did the right thing based on the evidence.

In my town two 14 year old girls were sentenced to 4 years for murdering a pregnant 17 year old. There was nothing but warm embraces and compassion for the heinous criminals.

Justice has as many meanings as there are people. Here's another.

The senior partner of the law firm has to leave town, so he entrusts a difficult criminal defense to the young associate. The kid is thrilled to have this chance to prove himself and sure enough, he gets their man acquitted. In his excitement, he fires off a telegram to the senior partner at his hotel: JUSTICE HAS TRIUMPHED. The next morning, he finds a telegram from the old man at the top of his In box: APPEAL AT ONCE.

I'm with Redbob. Schwarzenegger has made it clear he doesn't have any principles or inherent beliefs. He's quite proud of the fact that what guides him is what other people think - that he just wants to be their implementer and represent their views.

He's really quite a hollow man inside.

"What if Tookie wasn't straight?"

Tookie is said to have committed several sexual assaults in prison. As far as I know San Quentin isn''t co-ed.

There was also a guy on KFI Los Angeles (John & Ken show) who said that he's the one that brought Tookie into the Crips (three years after the gang was formed, precluding tookies claim as the founder), and said that Tookie was a "Pervert" and "Pedophile."

This "real" co-founder of the crips (his claim), said Tookie needed to die.

I've heard that reported as well, that "Tookie" is on his birth certificate.

"Arnold may be controversial but I don't think he made his decision based on politics. The facts were there and he did the right thing based on the evidence."

If that were the case he wouldn't have even had the Clemency hearing for Tookie. This one is cut-and-dry and yet Schwarzenegger played politics with it. Just another shameful Schwarzenegger action.

I think Melanie is stretching a little too much here. There's no reason to believe that Schwarzenegger granted a clemency hearing for the sole purpose of mollifying Dems. Any condemned prisoner has the right to apply for this proceeding.

"When he does the right thing I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. "

Fair point. Except that its hard to congratulate a man becuase he didn't do something worse than he had already done. Arnold gave life and oxygen to the "Save Tookie" movement by granting him the hearing on clemency.

We shouldn't reward him for that.

It's like when Clinton was president and we were all relieved when he didn't do really liberal things all the time - unlike what some more left-leaning Democrats might have done.

We didn't celebrate Clinton for not being too-bad - we just breathed a sigh of relief.

It's the same in this situation here with Arnold. Way to go Arnold for only being 1/2 a dope in this case of "Tookie."
