GULFPORT, Miss. - U.S. Sen. Trent Lott (news, bio, voting record) says personal losses he suffered because of Hurricane Katrina will weigh on his decision whether to run for re-election in 2006.
-- snip --
Another consideration, he said, is that he is "so disappointed with the (Bush) administration's response to this disaster that I'm almost embarrassed."

In spite of that awful immigration bill he drafted he's still pretty good on 90% of the issues important to me.
Jim Talent, from what I've seen so far, is also halfway decent, especially in comparison to his colleagues.
Taylor's schtick may work for him in his bailiwick, although he is clearly not particularly representative of anyone other than himself. It remains a puzzlement why in such an incredibly Republican district that he represents that the GOP has not put up a credible candidate since Larkin Smith in 1988 (the last to defeat Taylor, and would've still been the Congressman today had he not died in that terrible plane crash). He has a very erratic personality, manages to rub everyone the wrong way, says strange things (he called himself a Socialist), and votes just as exactly as that strange personality... all over the map.
You make the presumption he will automatically carry his coastal district in a Senate contest, and that is a rather big jump to make given the dynamics of that Republican district. Publicly broadcasting his record around the state and his own personal comments would likely be enough to sink him (the kicker being he'd be helping the likes of Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, et al, towards committee chairmanships - and those people are TOXIC in Mississippi - while DEPRIVING Thad Cochran of HIS ability to help the state, picture South Dakota's situation in 2002).
You also make the presumption he'd even WIN the Democrat primary without a problem. I have my doubts he could even do that, the Democrats would not be too happy to have someone that erratic in the Senate. Given that Black voters would have a HUGE impact in who gets the nomination, I'd have to think unless he started moving leftward dramatically, they're not going to vote for someone whom they might regard as a crypto-Republican.
More likely you'd see someone like Michael Moore, the ex-Attorney-General, getting the nod over Taylor. He's far more in line with the parasitic 'Rats at the federal level. In any event, I still stand on what I said, Chip Pickering would still probably win. He's young, he's attractive, he's telegenic, and he is very much in line with Mississippi's values.
Trent is one of the most useless Senators in the party.
Another Mississippi Trent Lott ping
Just get out of the way.
Bottom row, 2nd from right is Trent.
Hmm...I found the pic of Chief "Squats-When-Peeing"...
Definitely another "Brokeback Republican" moment
You're ruthless! ROTFLMAO!
I WAS going to make a comment on where Chief "Squats-When-Peeing"'s hand might have been...and Secret Service might either tackle Trent to keep him from engaging GWB in a biowarfare experiment...or else one of GW's aides might have the "Hand Sanitizer" on stand-by...
THAT is ruthless!
His Bush whining is making me mad now.
Please let Trent Lott retire. Or better yet, resign in mid-term so that Governor Haley Barbour can appoint his replacement. His performance as Majority Leader was a joke!
Chip Pickering will represent the state just fine. I agree that Gene Taylor would be a formidible candidate, but believe he's too volitile to actually win, barring a serious gaffe by Pickering.
The only reason Mark Pryor won was because Tim Hutchinson was a two-timing hypocrite who was too full of himself to retire gracefully.
Maybe you should run for a state senate seat... leave the rest of us alone!
I know he won't do it, he wants to make everyone's lives miserable. Still, if you're listening Lott...
RETIRE!!
So long, Trent. Write if you find work.
Tell us how you REALLY feel...LOL BTW, you forgot dasvedanya.
"GOP has not put up a credible candidate since Larkin Smith in 1988"
Actually, that's not entirely the case. In 1996, ex-state Representative Dennis Dollar ran against him. And last year, state Representative Michael Lott (no relation to Trent) ran. Taylor won with 59% and 64% respectively.
Lott got railroaded, its true.
But the fact is he was a RINO - or at least so ineffective he might just as well have been,
Get lost Lott.
ROFLMAO! Thanks for the pix ;o)
